'I can eat Domino's pizza IF I run 10 miles': Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski

Mika Brzezinski, the co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe, has opened up about her eating disorder - an overwhelming compulsion to overeat and overexercise.

In an interview with More magazine, the 45-year-old - who also reveals her struggles with food in her new book, Obsessed - explains how she previously kept her past a secret because it was 'too embarrassing'.

She said: '[As] the youngest in a brilliant family, always feeling like I couldn’t keep up... I thought eating was something I could control, unlike what I felt was a lack of intellect.'

'There were these constant stupid negotiations with myself: "I can eat the Domino’s pizza if I run 10 miles afterward," Ms Brzezinski explained.

'That’s what I’d do after bingeing — go for punishing runs.'

I have lost 40 pounds on Weight Watchers since the Super Bowl. You can eat anything if you stay within your points.

I like it better than Pizza Hut.

That's really not saying much for Domino's. I worked at the hut, too for a few weeks. A little advise, if you have to eat one of those chain store pizzas, don't order any meat other than pepperoni.

Hear, hear! They’re now the best national chain. The sauce on Papa John’s pizza makes me violently ill.

I don’t feel the need to ‘go for a punishing run’ if I eat pizza, but I do try to run about 15 miles a week, and if I eat pizza, I also eat a small salad. That’s just what many of us do probably because we’re not prone to her reductionist thinking.

Well, she got the lack of intellect part right.

But her dad’s not all that bright either.

She explains that.

I thought eating was something I could control, unlike what I felt was a lack of intellect.

Apparently, her "feeling" was accurate.

Ye gods. That's like bragging about the hooker with the least number of crabs.

Wow, that’s pretty good. No, excellent!!

I just started Atkins. Lost five pounds the first week. Day 2, week 2, Keto strips are mid range. Yay! Hate it when they say negative.

Congratulations! The corn chips are calling me from the kitchen right now, but if I sit here and type a few more lines, the kids will eat them all ;-).

Many athletes do just that: eat a lot then go and burn it off with exercise.
Like trying a 10 mile run right after downing Thanksgiving dinner?
It usually works out better the other way around - exercise first, then eat what you want.

I actually like Church’s Chicken, some of Burger King’s offerings and Taco Bell, too. I’m low-brow that way. Or maybe it’s just that I find myself poor these days. I like Ruth’s Chris and Lawry’s, too, but I find myself not heading in their direction since a certain someone gained office.

I guess I am old fashioned — eat the guilt, then burn it off.

But next T/D I might try your way. I honestly hadn’t thought about banking minus calories... :)

The average body stores enough energy in the blood/liver/muscles to run a marathon w/o needing additional help other than water.
Post exercise Gatorade, protein shakes, carbohydrates, etc., get sucked up by "thirsty" muscles like a sponge.

good food is the key to weight loss

your body knows when it is getting inferior crap and low quality protein so it stores up reserves

When I started making money and could afford anything I wanted, I discovered that a good High QUALITY steak or two a week and I am barely hungry other times.

I am buying more expensive things, but eating much less so it averages out

And she has the nerve to preach to others how THEY should eat.

Hey Mika, how about removing that timber in your own eye before commenting on the speck in mine?

I may be fat, but unlike you I am smart and can lose weight when I wish.

That’s exactly right. Get your metabilism going by doing stenuous exercise - then eat.
