Michigan legislative action thread

Michigan legislators are working to put the brakes on Common Core and restore authority over what is taught in Michigan classrooms to state policymakers, local school leaders, and—most importantly—teachers and parents.
As the Washington Times reports, “The state House on Wednesday passed an amendment, attached to the Education Department budget, that prohibits any funding for the controversial Common Core system.”

Good news for Michigan. I just received a newsletter from Ed Thompson, my State Rep in Texas, crowing about Texas being able to give more money back to Texas schools.
After the fact they are now going to discuss Common Core in Texas. And, of course, our Legislative session is almost over for another two years, they are being flooded with last minute bills, etc. etc.
And in the meantime, all our school related property taxes went up a bunch for 2013. All this in spite of the fact that the coffers are full.
Pathetic.
There’s talk of us going to a part time legislature but there are a few things I’d like to see cleared up first like lifting the ban on guns in schools.
Unfortunately that landed on the governor’s desk about an hour before the news from Sandy Hook broke.
My father used to say that most of the bad laws and troubles in Michigan stemmed from the full-time legislature placed in the Michigan Constitution.
Too much time and not enough to do so, like bored little children, they start to make trouble and mischief.
Sorry to late I have given up on public education. We home school now because of government interference with a proper education. We need EDUCATION not INDOCTRINATION.
Homeschooling is great but you can’t give up on public education. That just sentences your kids to a future dominated by public school marxists.
I don’t even have kids and I never miss a school vote. We must remain engaged.

Sorry please let me restate that. I will not place my kids back into public school. I will continue to fight against the liberal indoctrination of my nieghbors kids in the public school system.

: ) Yeah, I listen to ThayroneX whenever I'm in my car from 3-6pm M-F on 1600am WAAM radio. He's very good, very serious & very funny. I saw him once as he was the emcee at a tea party type rally in Milford. He's the real deal.
Good news for a change.
I am encouraged, too, but you have to wonder why our Governor has allowed this to happen so quietly. Will he sign to bill to end this Federal usurpation of local/state responsibility. The marxists are holed up in the state/local and federal bureaucracies — that’s where the quiet power is.
