Former counterfeiter says new $100s not worth attempting

PHILADELPHIA, - A former counterfeiter told a Philadelphia radio station he "wouldn't even attempt" to counterfeit the new $100 bills if he returned to his life of crime.

Wayne Victor Dennis, who was convicted of printing $15 million in fake $20 bills that were so convincing authorities said the currency spent years in circulation after he went to prison, told KYW-AM the new $100 bills contain many security features, but the most intimidating feature is a 3-D ribbon made of thousands of tiny lenses.

Images of bells on the ribbon turn into 100s when the bill is tilted.

"It's a great idea and I think it would be the most difficult part to counterfeit on this new bill," Dennis said.

"I would never -- but if I chose to go back into that profession, I would never even waste my time on this currency," Dennis said. "If I was to go back into that business, I wouldn't even attempt it because there's just too much sophistication."

given the old ones are still in circulation they aren’t probably going to stop anytime soon.

The new currency:

If you hold it up to the light you can see through it. If you hold it up to the light too long, it ignites.

Eventually, somebody will figure out how to produce high-quality counterfeit bills.

I don’t see how counterfeiters can compete with Obama.

translated: the confusion over the new 100s will make passing
counterfeits very easy.

If the counterfeiters really wanted a neat trick, they should have invented fractional reserve lending.

making over 90% of your money out of thin air.

only until hardly anyone will accept it as money.

until then fiat money still gets you physical commodities.

LOL...the technology to print it is worth more than the money it's self!

Only for a short time, until people become educated about the new bills.

They should try tying our currency to actual gold.

That would really freak out the Feds.

I think the only way to do that now would be via Constitutional Amendment — and it would have to be done carefully to keep Congress from wriggling around it (say altering the standards of measure to alter the value of the dollar).

The new Ben Bernanke $100 bill. Keep it in your wallet too long and it turns into a $50 bill.

The value of our money decrease daily. Zer0 is the criminal who prints money and Bernanke is passing them off as real

For the lone wolf counterfeiter, its probably too much. For a nation state willing to throw millions of $$ at the problem (and execute those who fail), not so much.
