The world of heavy metal has lost one of its pioneering guitarists.

Jeff Hanneman, one of the cofounders of Slayer, died today, the band announced on its website. He was 49.

"Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11 am this morning near his Southern California home," the statement reads. "Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed."

Most metalheads are conservatives. I went outside between sets during one concert in Saint Paul, MN (Amon Amarth was the headliner) and there was a discussion about George Soros. Most considered him to be evil, and a threat to this country by corrupting elections.

That is true of most of my metalhead friends. About the only exceptions are from those who have swallowed the union jizz. Maybe it was both the music and us coming of age during the Reagan era. Another great one gone too soon.

Was this a Brown Recluse, a Black Widow, or was he allergic or what?

Deaths from spider bites are extremely rare, so I understand...

There have been plenty in the music world that haven’t died from substance abuse. Ronnie James Dio a couple of years ago from cancer, and Clive Burr, old drummer for Iron Maiden, who died not long ago from MS.

Not sure. I have read that the bite got badly infected and thats what got him, not necessarily the type of spider.

I stink at html, but you can see the photos of his arm here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhMkNjHCnL4

It seems to have bitten him in the median cubital vein. I'm beginning to wonder if the bite was from a 5cc "spider" full of meth

I definitely preferred Jeff’s lead playing to Kerry King’s. Kerry’s solos were nothing but atonal screeching to me.

Just on the basis of my own, very limited, knowledge, I have to consider that death from a spider bite is extremely rare.

As in almost never.

Drugs, on the other hand - and especially for a rock ‘n’ roller...

If Eric Cartman could use a Slayer CD to break up a hippie music festival, they must be good!
