Ladies? Don't make him laugh.
Asked who his favorite female comics were Thursday at a Cannes Film Festival press conference, Jerry Lewis listed Cary Grant and Burt Reynolds. He then added: "I don't have any."
In 1998, Lewis famously said that watching women do comedy "sets me back a bit" and that he has trouble with the notion of would-be mothers as comedians.

I didn’t know he was still alive.
Andrea Martin from SCTV was funny. I thought Elaine from Sienfield was kind of funny.
LOL
Carol Burnett and Phyllis Diller were/are pretty funny and they both did stand up for years.
I thought Cary Grant had great comic timing. But so did, Rosalind Russell, Carol Lombard, Barbara Stanwyck, Lucille Ball, Claudette Colbert...
Martha Raye was a old time movie. She did very well in TV as well. Shewas also an RN in the Army and full colonel in the hospital unit. She performed in a USO show in Vietnam and in charge of the RNs in the hospital there.
Quite a woman!
Agree, I’ll take many female comedians humor over Lewis.
This is just old-fashioned male comedy types who grew up thinking that women weren’t funny. I come from a family of comedy writers and they don’t even admit that Lucy is funny. Personally, most comedy writers and comics are the most humorless people on earth. I used to type for them as a kid in Los Angeles so I know whereof I speak.
Most modern female comediennes are vulgar scarecrows, noyhing funny about them. Of course that goes for most of the male jokers, too.
Wow! I didn’t know Jerry Lewis is a misogynist (label that liberals will now apply to him).
Sarah Silverman, that korean lesbo Chu, and this new chick, Amy Schemer(sp?)are absolutely horrendous.
Any comedian whose entire act, whether male or female, is based on their genitals should be tagged by the “Sandman”
This will date me but thought Carol Burnett had her moments.
Gilda Radner also could make me laugh at times.
Madeline Kahn was a good comedic actress.
Jerry Lewis was never funny...to anybody over 10 years old!
True, his best movies were slapstick comedy, his stand up is not funny.
If that POS Kathy Griffin is the benchmark...then Lewis is right.
When her show was cancelled, schadenfreude gold.
Interesting that no one’s mentioned Lucille Ball.
Lucille Ball.
Carol Burnett never did standup in her whole life. She was terrified at the thought of doing that. She says so in this interview: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1104/24/pmt.01.html
