I once read that Lucille Ball (Desilou Productions) liked Barbara Eden and helped her get started. One thing she admired about the young actress was the way she kept dodging horndog Desi Arnez who famously pursued young actresses. The poor old girl must be too old and tired to outrun horndog Bill Clinton.

She looks pretty good for 78, a heck of a lot better than I will when I reach that age. I wouldn’t dare do that now :)

Just saw her recently in a 1956 episode of “West Point Story” (the tv-series just came out on dvd). Must have been one of her first gigs. I’ve always liked Eden. Very fetching. Her eyes and facial features always seemed geared more towards vampish roles, but her friendly/bubbly personality seemed to completely override all that, and veered her in the opposite direction and role types. Made her rather unique.

Yes, she does look good for 78. I think the problem is our shallow culture expects perfection (even if done with a knife) and aging gracefully, or in Barbara's case, slowly doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I once did a job for the guy who played the dad on ‘Happy Days’. Barbara Eden lived across the street from him, but I never caught a glimpse of her.

It was the heartbreak of a lifetime...
