Mustard, Onions, Sweet relish, Sour Kraut on Kosher Hot Dog.

That's it, right there. But it's gotta be on a New England hot dog bun:

Just add toppings. And beer.

Ketchup doe not belong on a hot dog.

Sez you.

I spent some time in Detroit and grew to like hot dogs topped with chili, chopped onions, and ketchup.

I always tell the vendor to put the “topping” on the bottom (on the bread), so that the mustard, relish or whatever stays in my mouth rather than going on my shirt.

One of my favorite meals was a 2 Frank combo at Nathans, 2 franks, fries, and a coke.

But I always had a problem, how to dress the franks: 1 with Nathans mustard and kraut, the other with ketchup and sweet relish (apologies to Harry Calahan... I occasionally eat hot dogs with ketchup.)

Nathan's fries were awesome!

I usually do more but the mustard dog with onions is NEVER wrong. It wasn't my custom in the late 60s until I ate at DW in SoCal. The "regular" dog was the mustard dog and it was served with or without onions. I came to enjoy your preference very much then. It is my default thought I might today add relish or peppers or whatever.

That sounds good

It is; if you're feeling adventurous use about ¼c of Minnesota wild (black) rice to every 1½c of white rice & add in ¼ of a head of lettuce* for every ¾c of rice.

* Lettuce acts as a "bitter herb", like celery, but much more mild.

Has Mayor Bloomberg told us that we shouldn’t eat hot dogs yet? Or is he still on his soda crusade????

Hate to say it but the best hot dogs I ever ate was about 40 years ago in Denmark. I still dream about them. They had a long skinny frank that was garlicy on a little short cardboard tasting bun. The topping was a mustardy horseradish and fried onions. Oh my goodness! Yummy! I’ve never been able to replicate them so I’m guessing the secret was in the frank.

You’re right, ketchup doesn’t belong on hot dogs any more than beans belong in chili. We had an exchange student who hated mustard and wanted ketchup on his first dog. Nope, sorry, kiddo. I made his dog with mustard. Ah, he understood!

Oscar Mayer Angus Hot Dog, yellow mustard, chopped onion, sweet relish.

Right now I have some frozen corn dogs and I pop it in the micro for 1 minute, slather with yellow mustard and it’s good.

fermented (old?) cabbage

kind of like saurkraut ....

just like a model-T is kind of like a Lambo.

I hear that some kimchi varieties smell a bit like vomit. I haven’t tried it though, from what I have read I might like to try “white” Kimchi

Jalapeno Relish Recipe #132595
This recipe has been in our family since 1976. It was my dads recipe given him by a friend.
He won 3rd place at the Southern New Mexico State Fair in 1978. He passed away that month and never knew he won. So you can say this a very special recipe in our family. It is like a canned pico de gallo. You can eat it with tortilla chips or mix in with scrambled eggs or whatever yon prefer.

6-7 Pints
2 lbs jalapenos
2 lbs tomatoes
1 large onion
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons oregano
3 cups vinegar
1 1/2 cups water
6-7 teaspoons sugar
6-7 teaspoons salt

1. Chop jalapenos, tomatoes and onion.
2. Mix vegetables together with garlic and oregano. Set aside.
3. Mix together vinegar and water. Set aside.
4. Fill jars with vegetable mixture to 1/2 inch from top of jars.
5. To each jar add 1 tsp each of salt and sugar.
6. Then add liquid to jars to 1/2 inch from top.
7. Seal jars and process in water bath for 45 minutes. Start counting when water comes to boil.
