Cronut Craze Has Sparked $40-a-Pop Black Market for the Pastry

Would you pay $40 for a doughnut? Sounds nuts, right?

A few weeks ago, we reported on the advent on the cronut --which basically is croissant dough fried like a doughnut. That was the first day the pastry was for available for sale publicly, and the first batch sold out in in just 35 minutes.

These people are crazy! I was buying these at Acme
grocery stores in Akron OH since the early 90’s. 59 cents.

Now I feel special.

$40 would buy a pretty decent cut of meat at the local meat market. I’d have to pass on the frou frou croissant.

Econ 101... supply and demand. The price is very likely to decline... if / when demand diminishes.
