SAN ANTONIO -- A father was tazed by San Antonio police while trying to save his infant boy from a house fire.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday during a house fire in the 100 block of Morningview Drive.

Investigators said the parents of the eight-month-old boy had dropped off their children at their grandparents' house. Somehow, a fire got started inside the home shortly thereafter.

The grandparents managed to grab one boy and rush to safety. That's when they realized one boy was still trapped inside.

Emergency crews and the children's parents arrived on the scene at around that time.

The boy's father tried several times to enter the burning home, but police held him back and ended up tazing him. SAPD said it was for his own safety.

The infant died from injuries sustained during the blaze.

Arson is under investigation. Police said the stories just don't add up.

No criminal charges have been filed.

The family is now looking for a new place to stay.

That last sentence is so tacky!

Like that is their greatest problem to deal with right away!

No possible wins here. They let him go in, he probably dies. A true tragedy. That said, they should have let him try.

That’s not quite what tasers are for.

Possible win: every able bodied person on the scene does everything in his or her power to attempt to save an infant.

NOT “manpower is wasted because a few nanny-staters prevents the baby’s father from *of his own volition* entering a blaze to save his son’s life.”

First rule of first aid, don’t create a second person needing rescue.

First rule of being a father. Do everything in your power to protect and save your children.

I believe this second trumps the first...and would personally die trying to save one of my own, and day of the week and twice on Sundays. And I am a certified 1st responder.

Well, that’s the Nanny State view.

Didn’t look like they did much ‘aiding’ in any case.

“First rule of first aid, don’t create a second person needing rescue.”

There is nobody you love so much that you would not risk your life to try to save? OK Spock.

Police need to stick to their primary responsibilities:

Raising revenue for the Welfare State.

Taxpayers of SA will be paying $$$ in this settlement. You will not win a lawsuit if your actions prevented an infant from being saved. Smart attys right now are telling SAPD to prepare for settlement

There is just no end to the abuse of the tazer.

That’s not quite what tasers are for.

You might not think so, if you are not in tune with the power of DOCTRINE.

It's a logical development. Given the power of tasing, the police are, by doctrine, prohibited from any sort of physical engagement with a member of the public. The first recourse after verbal exhoration is the taser. So, that's it right there.

Would have used that tazer on the cop in a judicious spot and ran it until the batteries ran flat.

If that's what it takes, then yes, I would die trying.
