Ok Pounds to Lose, Need a Diet, Diabeitic Friendly Meal Replacer...Obamacare Employer Requiring Loss
6/27/13 | Chickensoup

OK, I put on some kid and stess pounds and need to lose it. The Slimfast diet always worked for me but now I am prediabetic and trying to lose metabolic syndrome weight.

I need a meal replacer, preferable a powder that works like Slimfast with much less carbs.

The ideal? Powder that blends with milk, low carb, medium protein and medium fat.

Anyone?

I was in a similar situation years ago...minus the OsamaObamaCare factor. What worked for me...and,mind you,I was *very* motivated (mine was a true weight loss jihad) was...1)strict Atkins diet.Lots of roast beef, eggs, chicken salad,no dairy, lots of tap water and other Atkins type stuff.I didn't buy any of the Atlkins branded things, everything was from the supermarket. It was much easier for me,a true foodaholic,to stick with it than I thought it would be despite how boring it is and despite how much I love other things.2) Lots of walking.Brisk walking.Every day.Either outside (good weather) or at a nearby mall (not good weather). At least an hour a day.The pounds melted off.

But if you go this route,a tip.Use mineral oil every day or you'll never go to the bathroom again.Mineral oil's taste is unpleasant but only for a second or two.

soy...tofu was more fattening than I considered, so was rice. Ok when I was younger but as I became more metabolicly challenged it did not work.

I plan on a more atkins/paleo/med diet after this first bump. I need to detach from food first and two shakes daily and a protein and salad supper will do that for me.

veggies i mean are not potatos, not rice, not soy stuff. peppers, lettuces, green stuff, mushrooms, onions, cauliflower, water chesnuts, green beans, broccoli, cucumber, tomatos, not super high calorie stuff. just take supplements while on the diet, you’ll be safe and you’ll drop weight.

That will be part of my eating down the road, now I need to detach from food and any major food prep.

Much to my surprise my internist at the time didn't object when I told him that I was doing Atkins (I started it without his knowledge). He even explained how Atkins works.Basically,Atkins is high in protein and low in just about everything else (particularly carbs). He said that protein is more effective than any other type of food in turning off the little switch in your head that tells you that you're hungry. The result is fewer calories taken in--->thus,weight loss.

gluten-free high protein

I went n a diet that I started by eating nothing but filet mignon for a week- after the first 3 days I was NOT HUNGRY for almost 2 days

Steak is expensive, but if you eat good meat you are a LOT LESS hungry, so you buy less (which evens it all out)

now that I think about it, I had a huge steak dinner yesterday, and I don’t remember eating anything today (happens frequently now)

STOP ALL BREAD AND WHEAT for at least a month straight- gluten may be you problem too.

PM me if you want more details, this worked for me - I am 55 and am back in the same size jeans I wore in my 30’s

I love to cook and bake so I guess it’s different for everyone. Eating real food allows me to do the things I love plus eat! I’m concerned that the shakes and salad are not going to be satisfying for you and you will fall off of the wagon. I’ve been there with the calorie counting, point counting, carb counting, calories burned counting, rabit food eating regime where I would be constantly hungry and constantly tempted. Reprogram yourself by eating real food. After two days you’ll have lost your cravings for sugar and you’ll feel great. Plus you can eat all day long! How awesome is that?

I am doing exactly that- I eat mostly soups and stews and occasionally steak dinners and feel great and lost a ton (down to 210 from 260 - and 210 is my ideal weight at 6’5)

I recommend a low glycemic index diet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-glycemic_diet). It was originally recommended for diabetics, but it also works well for non-diabetics like myself.

“Glucerna” is a drink made for diabetes. Put Glucerna in search on Amazon and read about all the different types they have. I think this is what you are looking for. You could substitute these for a meal or meals.

I use for bodybuilding and like it. It is the only product that doesn't wreck my G.I. system and tastes great.

What I do for a diet when needed (every few years) is as follows (and it works well for me):

- High protein body-building mix blended with skim milk.

- Low (as in infinitesimal) carb, high protein diet — lots of greens, proteins, and don’t worry about the fat content (don’t get stupid on it).

- Lots and lots of water every day. (a gallon or more)

- Weigh (and record) every day at the same time on the same scale wearing skivvies (so that there isn’t a change in “tare weight”)

- When I plateau (generally after about two weeks), drop the shakes and add a very moderate amount of carbs for a week or so...

- Then go back on it hot and heavy until I plateau again

- And so on until I am about 5 pounds away from my target

- At that point, start easing in a moderate amount of carbs and working over to maintenance status.

- Oh, yeah, and also do 30 minutes or so of cardio training a day.

- Also, with that, you can drink a moderate quantity of red wine, vodka, gin, or whiskey. Stay away from white wine, beer (I know...), rum, and liquers.

It’s similar to an “Atkins” style diet but without all the high priced “Atkins” food and paraphanalia.

Back in the 60s, that used to be called the “drinking man’s diet.” And it works...well.

The one caution: if you do it, drink a ton of water every day to keep the kidneys flushed out.

There’s not a lot of sugars in the diet, so I’m thinking (not 100% sure, of course, as I’m not a doctor) that it should be OK for a pre-diabetic.

You've got a real problem.
Carbohydrates are your killer, now.
Check out the old Dr. Adkins Diet, oif you can find it.
It was also known at the Air Force Diet out of the 70s and 80s.
Click on the books below.
Look, it's extremely important you DON'T become diabetic.
I am Diabetic Type II myself.
If you go on this diet, you MUST take your vitamins, everyday.
This diet works, but you can not break it in any way, or you have to start over again, and it takes a minimum of 48 hours to make your body go back into breaking down your own bodyfat.
