Last night was the 2013 MLB All-Star game. Ah, Americas pastime! Who doesnt love a good baseball game? And what better way to open up Americas game then with a heartfelt rendition of God Bless America? And wait, a minute. Who is this guy coming out to sing God Bless AMERICA?

yea...he’s also a very good dancer.
Those remarks remind me of the statements made by Bill the Butcher in the story “Gangs of New York” where only the “NATIVES” had rights. This was extremely racist and that’s something I won’t tolerate.
Not “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”?
Would they rather have Lady Gaga sing it, and ending it with “land of the gaaaay?”
Anthony is a great singer, and did the song proud. God bless ‘im.
Thank you for posting this. The comments above make me proud to be a Freeper. I’m on leave this week and my Puerto Rico Ping list is on my office desktop so I won’t be able to ping the list until Monday unless AuH2O still has a copy of it.
The Democrat Party was also responsible for the Jim Crow and segregation laws--which were opposed by the Republican Party!
The two parties have not changed.
I once knew a man named Flaco. Of course in irony. He was one of those lumbar lard... I mean ... lordosis guys. Nice guy, though. He fixed bicycles. Just didn’t ride them.
It takes years of training to become as stupid and offensive as those people who’s posts were shown.
Current list of active players in the major leagues.
J. C. Boscán
Luis Antonio Jiménez
And we’re supposed to believe that MLB fans are a bunch of racists outraged at the prospect of a single Peurto Rican singing the National Anthem?
Try that again.
Current list of Latin American players in the majors.
Alejandro De Aza
Rubby De La Rosa
Fautino de los Santos
Enerio Del Rosario
Juan Carlos Oviedo
Ramón S. Ramírez
lisandro Amezquita jr
Jorge de la Rosa
J. C. Romero
J. C. Boscán
Luis Antonio Jiménez
Flaco Jimenez, the legendary Tejano accordionist.
It’s very easy to make the leap from legitimate concern about a national issue such as illegal immigration to generalized racial or ethnic prejudice. It’s also totally dead wrong.
You can substitute “black criminality” for “illegal immigration,” and it’s still totally dead wrong.
I just don’t believe any regular viewer of baseball is complaining about this. Anyone racist enough to be offended by a Latin American singer would find baseball unwatchable anyway.
There is considerable logic behind your viewpoint.
Reminds me of when José Feliciano played and sang the National Anthem at a baseball game. He did it a little different. I thought it was beautiful, but a lot of folks got mad.
I was at a Pittsburgh Pirates game a few years ago where the 70’s rock band Foreigner, in town for a gig, sang the most beautiful a capella version of the Star Spangled Banner I have ever heard. And most of them are Brits.
I personally really appreciate when non-American performers do a nice job with our anthem. Many Canadian NHL arenas excel at this.
Those tweets are pathetic. The guy’s an American. That’s the kind of stuff the Democrats use against us.
I went to a Tiger’s game a couple of years ago and the National Anthem was sung by the players children in a Spanish/American mix. It was their Latin American day and the team played as La Tigres.
All the teams also play a couple of games in the Negro League uniforms and I happen to think its cool.
Baseball would be unwatchable to a committed racist.
Kesha, Beyonce, Gag gag and the like all suck.
He’s on the Kelly and Michael show right now and he addressed the issue. He was born and raised in NY......I like Salsa music and the guy is a great entertainer......
Best rendition of SSB ever...
Flaco was with the Texas Tornados, circa 1990, when Freddie Fender was still alive. Ayayayayayay!
I love Tejano conjunto music. My children are horrified when I start to polka, though, especially if I also sing. There’s nothing more fun than horrifying one’s teenagers while listening to good music ;-).
im with you
a few weird posts from an oddball tumblr blog do not makean issue
what this is actually is a “see....I found racism somewhere”
posted for effect for whatever reason
and folks here. bless their hearts as is the custom cannot scramble fast enough prove they are of course equipped with proper kneejerk response denouncing racism or prejudice
meanwhile being white is literally under attack culturally and politically all from the top
and folks are largely castrated in their respective sponse
agit prop silly thread and it worked like a fat catawba worm on catfish
Sounds fun. I think the last time I was at a baseball game was the Oklahoma City team, so it must have been earlier than 1999.
I would let anyone sing a song in praise of our country. Anyone. I would be honored to have a foreigner, which he is not, sing something in our praise.
Those tweets are from low-information baseball fans.
Hopefully he didn’t mangle it, like Jose Feliciano did in the 1968 World Series.
This singer isn't from Russia, Cuba or Iran, but she sings it properly--including the rarely-heard verse and with the refrain's original words ("from the green fields of Virginia to the gold fields out in Nome").
God Bless America--Katherine Smith
I remember a lot of people were shocked a few years ago when Curtis Granderson chose Ty Cobb as one of the greatest players of all time.
Granderson’s reasoning was sound. He said despite the legendary racism of Cobb, there were simply none better at the game. Granderson then came back to the racism and said that he believed it was more legendary than real in Cobb’s case. He then pointed to several things Cobb had done for blacks like opening the first negro hospital in Atlanta, setting up negro scholarships and mentoring programs.
Marc Anthony sang God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch. The National Anthem was sung by Candice Glover.
I know liberals who think "We Are the World" should be our national anthem.
Bull. A few twitter posts mean nothing.
During the NBA finals..I remember when I looked at the avatars of commenters at the vile comments I saw on the web, they were mostly from blacks.
Now, I'm wondering if they were even real comments from real people, or from the government trying to stir things up..I can't believe it's come to this..
There will be race war in this country, and most likely it will be between blacks and latinos.
LOL! Honestly, MLB is like a jobs program for Hispanics from other than the U.S.
It’s the little things that make life worth living!
I used to think that, just because, historically, in the San Antonio area, there was no love lost between those two ethnic groups. Now I see that La Raza has joined in with the NAACP, and a muslim group to support Eric Holder's witch hunt against George Zimmerman. Plus, yesterday, I heard Joaquin Castro jumping on that bandwagon..I wonder...
This is like when I was in Bosnia-Hercegovina in the 90's. I am watching the Balkanization of my Country.
