I’d rather have someone from Russia, Cuba or Iran sing it properly ...

Shoot, yes.

It’s very easy to make the leap from legitimate concern about a national issue such as illegal immigration to generalized racial or ethnic prejudice. It’s also totally dead wrong.

You can substitute “black criminality” for “illegal immigration,” and it’s still totally dead wrong.

I just don’t believe any regular viewer of baseball is complaining about this. Anyone racist enough to be offended by a Latin American singer would find baseball unwatchable anyway.

There is considerable logic behind your viewpoint.

Reminds me of when José Feliciano played and sang the National Anthem at a baseball game. He did it a little different. I thought it was beautiful, but a lot of folks got mad.

I was at a Pittsburgh Pirates game a few years ago where the 70’s rock band Foreigner, in town for a gig, sang the most beautiful a capella version of the Star Spangled Banner I have ever heard. And most of them are Brits.

I personally really appreciate when non-American performers do a nice job with our anthem. Many Canadian NHL arenas excel at this.

Those tweets are pathetic. The guy’s an American. That’s the kind of stuff the Democrats use against us.

I went to a Tiger’s game a couple of years ago and the National Anthem was sung by the players children in a Spanish/American mix. It was their Latin American day and the team played as La Tigres.

All the teams also play a couple of games in the Negro League uniforms and I happen to think its cool.

Baseball would be unwatchable to a committed racist.

Tejano! The only time you will ever see a PowderMonkey dancing in the street, with a Lone Star beer in one hand, and certain little gal from Louisiana in the other!

Flaco was with the Texas Tornados, circa 1990, when Freddie Fender was still alive. Ayayayayayay!

I love Tejano conjunto music. My children are horrified when I start to polka, though, especially if I also sing. There’s nothing more fun than horrifying one’s teenagers while listening to good music ;-).

and folks here. bless their hearts as is the custom cannot scramble fast enough prove they are of course equipped with proper kneejerk response denouncing racism or prejudice

meanwhile being white is literally under attack culturally and politically all from the top

and folks are largely castrated in their respective sponse

amazing

agit prop silly thread and it worked like a fat catawba worm on catfish

Sounds fun. I think the last time I was at a baseball game was the Oklahoma City team, so it must have been earlier than 1999.

I would let anyone sing a song in praise of our country. Anyone. I would be honored to have a foreigner, which he is not, sing something in our praise.

Hopefully he didn’t mangle it, like Jose Feliciano did in the 1968 World Series.
