Apple has unveiled a top-of-the-range tablet called the iPad Air that is 20% thinner than the previous version.

The 9.7in (24.6cm) computer is 7.5mm (0.3in) thick and weighs 1lb (469g), which the firm claims is the lightest full-sized tablet on the market.

It is powered by the same A7 chip found in the company's iPhone 5S.

Kinda disappointed it doesn’t have the iTouch security. My 3 works just fine for now. I’ll wait.

I wish they still supported their first Ipad. Hasn’t been a software update in ages and won’t be.

Still running strong, though.

I bought the original the day they came out and love it. But it crashes often when I run chrome and link to 2 or 3 complex websites. It’s a memory problem for sure so I’m thinking it’s time to upgrade.

And as a special added enhancement it now transmits your location to the NSA, 24/7, even when powered down!

I had the 32g WiFi only original. For the 3 I maxed it out at 64g and added the cellular option.

What I’m gobsmacked about is the new Mac Pro desktop. What a sweet looking kickass little machine. Way above my price range, but holy smokes! Can drive three 4K monitors, up to 12 cores, 1TB SSD.... All in a package about the size and shape of a cookie jar. LOL!

And for that reason, I've stuck electrical tape over the cameras of all of my connected devices.

Yes, and an alarm goes off at the NSA Headquarters if the user's location is NOT a gay bar, bathhouse, or at the very least gay part of town.

I’m appalled at the price of the iPad Mini. $399 for a 16GB version! The specs aren’t much different than my 32GB Google Nexus 7 which I bought for $269. I wonder how many people will pay the premium for the Apple name.

I have an original ipad and just recently started having problems with all the apps shutting down and it going back to the home screen. Did some research on it and apparently ios5 is a resource hog. Had to totally shut everything automatic on it off and now it runs ‘most of the time’.
Love my ipad but am seriously considering buying something else.

The iPad 1 had little ram. My original, that I gave to the GF has started to have problems with some complex websites. Though generally speaking, still works fine.

The march of technology is a constant.

I had one for about 3 days. Disappointed.
Sales told me. 'Just connect the old MBP up to the new one with this cable and transfer all your data to the new one"
Well, 12 hrs. later it finally finished.(I didn't have much on the old MBP. Read stories of it running 24 hrs.+)
That soured me.
Need to make sure 'sleep' mode and WiFi are turned off. I wasn't apprised of that.
Then the new retina MBP have no DVD drives. So you have to buy an external, $80.
Kinda defeats the purpose of a laptop, portability.
Apple's argument is everything is going to 'the cloud' or thumb drives or SD cards.
My cameras, including the one I just bought Fri. have their manual on a CD.
Tried transferring some programs. DVD to thumb drive, thumb drive to new MBP. PIA
Returned the new MBP and am using the one I bought in 2007.

Very, very disappointed with Apple.

You had a new Mac Pro desktop for three days? Interesting since it doesn’t ship til December.

Anyway, it sounds like you had some settings issues with a laptop, and the fact that cd/DVDs aren’t supported. Given that flash drives have far more capacity than the old cd/DVD formats; what difference does it make? Optical drive are going to go away and for good reason: limited capacity, they take up a large amount of physical space in whatever form factor they reside, and they suck power.

As for the manuals for your new camera, most everyone these days have PDF versions of manuals on their websites. I know Canon does, because I downloaded them onto my iPad and they reside in my iBooks app along with all sorts of manuals for appliances and whatnot.

The MBP Apple was selling a month ago, almost identical to the new, new,NEW MBP.

As far as manuals, etc. Some of my programs I wanted to load are on DVD.
And if you use the laptop for business or just carry it around it would be nice to be able to load a CD or DVD w/o the extra load of an external drive.
What about sharing your photos w/ relatives? Commonly done w/ DVDs? You can't make a DVD. Yes, there are workarounds but what happened to Apple's simplicity of use?
Do they make a thumb drive and/or SDcard labelmaker? I've not seen one..g..couldn't read it if they did.
I had my eye on the least expensive 15" MBP, hi-res, DVD drive . Don't see it in this year's lineup. They do sell it in 13".
The frustrating thing is I've come to really like Macs far better than the PC's I used to have.

The iMac desktops don't have the DVD drive either. Look beautiful. Not much thicker than a pane of glass, side view. 'Where's the DVD slot'. "Oh, you have to buy this external drive and make room for it on your desk"
In my opinion a mistake.
Esthetics over function.
It'll be a cold day in he!! when I load my photos, files, etc. onto a remote sever, aka 'The Cloud'.

Have you done a hard restart?

Hold down the on/off button. It’s the one at the top right of the iPad. Hold it down until it says “SLIDE TO POWER OFF”.

Slide it and wait few a few minutes. Push the same button and an Apple will appear and reboot the system.

I stood in line several years ago to buy an untried iPad 1. I never regretted the purchase and still take it with me 7 days a week.

Today, I bought the new iPad Air. It is so light. But, I will eternally curse Jonie Ive for foisting iOS7on us. I even wrote Apple a nasty letter about iOS7.

Overall I’m happy. I wish it had the old OS.

The Mac Pro is not the Mac Book Pro.
That’s like confusing a Ford F350 with a BMW.

Yeah I have tried everything. Found a place on the net that had pointers for settings that helped a little. Apparently it is just the os is a resource hog on my old original ipad.

I’m having a major issue with charge time on my mini. It taking 18 to 24 hours to recharge from fully drained to 100%. Seems I always have have it plugged in. I’m getting half a day on a charge. Thinking I made a mistake getting this over an android tablet. Made the switch at christmas. My android charged in a couple of hours, maybe three and then would go for at least a couple of days.

I’ve seen this issue discussed elsewhere but anyone here having similar problem with their mini?

Hello, that’s me. I paid the price for the iPad mini. To be honest I don’t see it is any better than the android I had at least for my usage. Plus with the problem I am having with battery life I’m regretting the purchase.
