U R totally correct. In my mind the players needs both feet in the end zone while the ball must be in the air space above the end zone and must be in possession of the ball. All at the same time. Enough of these flyby or fade route touchdowns.

No dog in the fight, but I think that was interference. The defender impeded the receivers path to the ball *and* was not trying to make a play in the ball himself.
In this case he hates cheaters. The Patriots were sanctioned by the NFL for cheating during their “championship” years.
You’re right in that all those teams that lost to the Patriots are by definition losers. But that doesn’t mean that they are required to like the team that cheated to win those games.
Patriots fans can get as mad as they want that other people hate cheaters, but that will never change the fact that the Patriots will be considered cheaters until the head coach that knew about and sanctioned the cheating is no longer with the team. They certainly don’t deserve sympathy for any calls that go against them, as that happens to every team at some point.

Whatever, it looked uncatchable to me. I commend them for conferring and picking up the flag. They could have called holding though.
Although, if the ball was in the air at the time, defensive holding can’t be called. Illegal contact is still on the table though.
Gronk *was* held in a way that prevented him from returning for the ball.Of course if it *had* been called there’s no way to be *certain* that they would have scored in their one play....but the Pats do pretty well at the one yard line.

If defensive holding had been called, the Pats would ahve gotten the ball on the 8. It’s a 5 yard penalty regardless of where the holding occurs. Interference in the end zone gets you the ball at the one, not holding.

It’s the location of the ball that matters, not the person holding it.
Unless it’s in the back of the end zone, in which case the ball doesn’t have to break the plane in the field of play at all.

I think he’s referring to a receiver making a catch at the back (or side) of the endzone with his body in bounds even if the ball isn’t. I’ll admit it’s not entirely consistent, but the goal line issue comes down to: if you spot the ball at its point of forward progress, then how can you start a new play with the ball already in the endzone? If you don’t spot the ball at its point of forward progress, then what do you use to spot the ball?
How was the ball uncatchable when the initial second contact was an arms length from where it was eventually caught? The first, relatively minor contact, was by the guy who caught the ball, from behind the receiver.
It was uncatchable because Gronk was moving himself away from the ball. If he’d have tried to turn back towards the line of scrimmage (coming back to the ball) he’s have been interfered with, but he continue moving towards the end line on his own the whole time. The fact that he was moving perpendicular to the guy that caught the ball shows it was uncatchable, he needed to move in a different direction than he was.
Kindof hard to fight for the ball with your arms pinned to your side, and the defenders body against you without committing a penalty yourself, or even with committing a penalty.
