Mike Shanahan was reportedly ready to quit because of Daniel Snyders favoritism of Robert Griffin III
The Washington Redskins are an absolute mess right now, with every day bringing a leaked story of discontent to top the previous one.
Here's a pretty wild one: Coach Mike Shanahan reportedly had cleaned out his office before last season's wild-card game against Seattle because he was ready to quit as soon as the season ended. Why was Shanahan ready to go? Because of owner Daniel Snyder's coddling of quarterback Robert Griffin III.
That report comes from ESPN.com. A team spokesman in the story is quoted as saying the report is "ridiculous." Shanahan declined comment when asked by ESPN. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen discussed the report on the network's pregame show and didn't mention the caveat that the Redskins said it was ridiculous, via Pro Football Talk.

It will be interesting to see what happens right after the end of this awful season.

I wouldn’t mind if Shanahan returned to Gainesville to be our OC.

OK I was a semi-Redskin fan in the 70's (Chiefs are my team). I went to Leesburg, Va. in 1978 and spent a year working for the Corp of Engineers near Berryville. The Redskins lost a game to Dallas when they were unable to get their field goal team on the field in time. The whining about the officiating was beyond belief. The D.C. non-voting rep Fauntroy even called for a federal investigation of the NFL not because he watched the game but because his constituents were upset.
Adding the "White Rat" Shanahan to the team (from our archenemy Denver) was the final straw.

Snyder is an awful owner. Happy to see him lose.

I don’t think this happens very often-the firing of a head coach during the season.

Based upon the snow that was coming down and mixed in sleet, I can see no reason to sit there when the potatoskins were down 31-0

Both the figurative and literal meaning of 'fair weather fan' all rolled into one. I know what its like (I went to a Chiefs game last year)...but look at this photo from the start of the 3rd quarter:
What happened to all those die hard Redskins fans?

If this photo is from the beginning of the 3rd quarter, why are the teams not on the sidelines? Looks like just a few staff on both sides Not a Redskins fan by any means, but with the condition of the field and lack of players, I’d day it was taken after the game was over.

I imagine the players are huddled on the heated benches. You can see that both teams are on the field, starting to line up for the kickoff....I'd say the photo is probably a minute or so before kickoff for the 2nd half. Here's one from a minute after the 2nd half started:
There's a few more people there...a few. This year has been a disaster for the Redskins.

Yeah, I did some checking and the reported attendance, per ESPN was 56 k plus. They average around 80 k, so it was down by just under a third, but the first shot posted shows a virtually empty stadium.

Well I’d say quite a few of those 56k left at halftime...the game was practically lost by then.
The first photo isn’t a misprint or a trick...it really is a halftime shot...and not after the game. I’ve never seen anything like it.
btw 56k is the lowest attendance ever at that stadium for a Redskins game.
The coach will be the scapegoat...and it seems RGIII’s knee will never be 100% again...a huge fall from grace.

Any stadium looks like that right before the second half kickoff, people are either still waiting in line to go to the bathroom or to get beer.
