Posted on 12/14/2013 10:33:19 AM PST by The Bat Ladys Husband

First of all, let me say that I have been a lurker on FR since 2000. My wife (The Bat Lady) has been registered and a poster since the same time. I generally use FR as a news source and in years past as an info source for FR organized protests/demonstrations. I don’t generally comment on articles because I mostly agree and don’t need to preach to the choir. However one article fired me up and I finally register in August 2013.

That being said, I recently commented on an article regarding Steve Stockman running against John Cornyn. Knowing a lot about Texas politics I said Stockman was not a viable candidate. OMG! You would have thought I said I pissed on Reagan’s grave. I was called a troll, a Cornyn plant, a GOP-e (if my friends had heard that they would be laughing their asses off.) With all the name-calling I had to look to see if I was on FR or DU. Conservatives pride themselves on the quality of their debate versus liberal knee-jerk name-calling. I guess some here on FR can’t raise themselves above that level.

Sticks and Stones! But more disturbing to me is the rise what I like to call the FR-e. Those are the posters that think that because they have been on FR for a long time that they are some kind of royalty and that newcomer’ comments and insights have no validity if they do not parrot their particular perception. I was called a noob “prattling"

(prat·tle talk idly or childishly: to talk in a silly, idle, or childish way silly, idle, or childish talk)

Just because someone has recently discovered FR or recently joined after lurking they prattle? Oops, my bad, I guess they don’t prattle if they agree with the pompous long-term freeper. Maybe we could cut back on the fundraisers if we encouraged new members rather than drive them off or turned them off with vitriolic discourse and vicious name-calling

(vit·ri·ol·ic adjective - filled with the intention or desire to do evil.)

If you haven’t looked at the Home page (click Free republic at the top left of the browse page) I invite you to look again: Jim Robinson states: “Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support...”

Jim is trying to attract people to FR. How does denigrating a new reader attract them to FR? Being a victim of a verbal knock-out game by a supercilious FR-e certainly does not encourage a "newbie" to participate or even hang around

(su·per·cil·i·ous adjective 1. behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.)

Certainly all long time members don’t fit this category but those who do know who you are (or maybe you don’t) and so do we.

Thanks for the links in FR mail..Gotta say, congrats on getting a thread past 350 posts, and for attracting some great FR names to it.

Now that the thread has baseball and Civil War overtones added to it, this could go past 1,000.

There are quite a few who have been here a long time but only post to promote RINOism around elections.

My experience has been that these folks are among the nastiest and most predictable here on FR. When the general election period rolls around every 2 years, God forbid you post something to an FR thread about planning to vote for a 3rd party candidate, in lieu of "wasting your vote" on a RINO and showing implicit support.

The inevitable "screw you, you're effectively voting for the Dem if you do that" responses immediately come rolling in, and they quickly get downright nasty if you have the gall to point out that they are incorrect. A vote for I is NOT a vote for D, nor for R. It's a vote for I. Just that simple. But, logic really pisses off the RINOs.

I've been involved in other nasty exchanges here over the years, particularly on threads about abortion and evolution, but the "if you don't vote for the RINO you're effectively voting for the Dem" nastiness jumps to mind first because it's so periodic and predictable.

It is a lot like High School here - you know, the Senior Class, new Freshmen, etc. Anyone that looks up your poster page to see when you joined - watch out.

I’m new as well - sort of (but not really).

You can find a few of them complaining about the Personal Blogs section of FR calling others "blog pimps" for example.

*smirk* Can't imagine *who* you're talking about!

You don’t have to go to someones page. Put your cursor on a posting name and their sign up date shows. :-)

and I just remember it being more polite.

Which was probably before someone's husband started tossing hand grenades at NOOB's without the gravitas of being a - non-NOOB..

Don't ya think?

Angle could have won if she had the money, as with other TP candidates.

Actually, Angle had a 4 point lead two days before the election.

With a lot of help from Reid's union goons he won by 4 points.

That's an 8 point swing in two days.....Harry stole it "period"!

I am from the class of 98 and have been an almost daily visitor. There has been a lot of change in people recently and I must admit that I miss the reasoned arguments and sharp wits of the past.

There are good people here but it only takes a few to mess up the soup.

A lot of the high powered people have left or are stepping back. We are not the people we once were. I hope a younger generation continues to join, but I am not sure they will.

.
Can you have missed the whole point?

The route to success is to challenge the RINO at the primary level where you have a fighting chance of victory, rather than going sellout party in the general where you will always be doing a Perot, and handing a victory to the Marxist.

I was called a troll, a Cornyn plant, a GOP-e...

Continuing with the established pattern of inclusion of definitions in posts to this thread, we have the following definition of Troll (Internet) from Wikipedia:

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

This entire thread by definition begins with a troll post :)

That being said, I'm not complaining - just pointing it out. Some of the most interesting threads or sub-threads I've ever read were the result of trolling. Just as long as it doesn't get too personally abusive, which this isn't.

FR has always been a rough and tumble, bare-knuckle place. BUT................it was also known as a family forum. There was no profane language. I once was called on the carpet by a Mod for saying someone was a twit. Look at the OP’s post and you’ll see words that never were allowed years gone by. We make fun of DU and their language but we aren’t far behind them.
