Complete Headline: Here comes polar vortex TWO: Just when you thought it was safe to go outside... another blast of Arctic air to hit US next week

If you live in the American Midwest or East Coast, you may want to hold off on putting away your winter gear.

Just as temperatures are beginning to warm in much of the U.S, another arctic blast in the form of a polar vortex appears to be on the horizon.

The upcoming front of icy temperatures is expected to bring arctic air to southern Canada and then move into the northern plains of the U.S. before moving to the Midwest and East Coast - each of which is still recovering from last week's frigid temperatures.

Thunder yesterday in central Virginia. Thunder in January? Next week the arctic climate returns. Crazy.

Thunderstorms in southern NC yesterday, water over the roads. One of our NC posters said she saw a tornado.

It looks like we’ll have a few days for the floods to subside before the next thing hits.

I actually heard a stupid “educated” liberal say that global warming is what caused the arctic blastswe’re having lately. Did I respond. No. The obvious stupidity hanging in the air and the silence that followed told me he realized what an idiot he was for saying it. These liberals...I don’t think.they think things through to their full conclusions very often...its fun when a liberal outstupids himself...

lol...exactly. I check the Farmer’s Almanac and they predicted a very cold winter. I read that back in September, which prompted me to get the roof replacement scheduled in October and completed in November. It IS Winter, after all.

The GOOD news? For me, at least, the daylight these days is noticeably longer. :-)

I predicted a relatively mild winter based on wasps nests and sqiurels nests

If you add it up, we've (sw Pa) had about two weeks of winter, so far.

"If you live in the American Midwest or East Coast, you may want to hold off on putting away your winter gear."

Because people in the Midwest are so accustomed to putting away their cold weather gear at the beginning of January....

I still think it should be called a “Polar Haboob”, in that, using the anti-logic of the global warmingists, it is “just like a dust storm, but without all that dust, and colder.”

The interesting thing about the weather is that it’s always been around, and it’s always going to be around and in March, June, September and December equinoxes will occur, just like they have since this globe started spinning. They will occur long after humankind has disappeared from this earth just like they did before humankind arrived, and it’s the creator who has determined these seasons and Al Gore and all of his minions can huff and puff all they want. They are not in charge.

Cities near the Great Lakes should expect lake-effect snow.
I've lived about 5 miles from Lake Ontario for 40+ years. This is NOT news.

NC here...

The wife-unit and I were hanging a picture in the foyer yesterday. and a rumble started outside behind the house...really shook the house. I looked towards the back of the house just as a huge boom went off in front of the house. Scared the shinola out of both of us. My first thought was an airliner had gone down.

There was just that one thunder-boomer. Really odd.

There were several big booms here near Charlotte, went on for 15 minutes or so. At least all this precip didn’t come down as snow, or we’d be hip-deep.

Those jugheads were putting away their "winter gear" in January? No wonder they're freezing to death. Not very bright. Somebody needs to purchase a calendar.

Thanks. Having lived in the Midwest most of my life, I needed a British newspaper to tell me that it was probably ill-advised to expect a heat wave in January.

We used to call it the "January Cold Snap." Often followed by the "February Cold Snap." But that was in the days before Al Gore ...

Intellicast's historic averages page lists the lowest temperature days in Dayton, Ohio as January 19-22. On average January is the coldest month followed by February and December.

January seems to be the coldest month here in se Wisconsin. February is cold and snowy too, but you start to see signs, although subtle (more sunshine, snow melt), that the weather is going to change. In March, temps begin to moderate gradually throughout the month.
