Camel bones suggest error in Bible, archaeologists say

Archaeologists from Israel’s top university have used radiocarbon dating to pinpoint the arrival of domestic camels in the Middle East -- and they say the science directly contradicts the Bible’s version of events.

Camels are mentioned as pack animals in the biblical stories of Abraham, Joseph and Jacob, Old Testament stories that historians peg to between 2000 and 1500 BC. But Erez Ben-Yosef and Lidar Sapir-Hen of Tel Aviv University's Department of Archaeology and Near Eastern Cultures say camels weren’t domesticated in Israel until centuries later, more like 900 BC.

“In addition to challenging the Bible's historicity, this anachronism is direct proof that the text was compiled well after the events it describes,” reads a press release announcing the research.

Why Am I not surprised. God’s word is true, so their research is faulty, and that’s eventually going to be how it ends up... it always does.

My father was a a cowboy in Wyoming on a Ranch. The horses they used to mow hay were wild 9 months out of the year. I suspect camels were not needed all the time and left to forage in the wild till needed.

In Los Angeles, CA someone dug a hole 10 ft down, found copper wires, and concluded that they had phone lines 100 years ago.

In New York, NY someone dug a hole 20 ft down, found copper wires, and concluded that they had phone lines 200 years ago.

In Lincoln, NE someone dug a hole 30 feet down, didn’t find anything, and concluded that Nebraskans went wireless 300 years ago.

I think the credit for the above goes to Larry the Cable Guy.

How do you domesticate an animal for 3 months and then undomesticate them?

So the bible mentions animals from their future?

The Bible must be even more awesome than we thought!

The standard story about Camels is the Biblical proof that people smoked:

Gen 26:64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.

Unfortunately, this story only works from the King James Version (also known as the Authorized Version).

I had forgotten about that one.

“We had rather fight than switch”.

During WWII, Daddy sent his paycheck home to Mother along with the allotment she got anyway. He sold his cigarette ration to the other soldiers for more money than he could spend anyway.

I can't imagine how this could be proved with radiocarbon dating.

That’s it-”rather fight than switch”.

It’s strange to think of a time when the government actually gave cigarettes to the soldiers as part of their rations. All things considered, I’d trade these days for those.

My honor and respect to your dad.

That’s it. I can’t believe I remember that, Tareytons are kind of obscure these days, and that’s all I’m saying about that :)

I wonder how many remember the old ad: “I’d walk a mile for a camel”.

My Grandpa use to smoke Camels. They didn't take kindly to it. Ornery creatures.

Oh no! The Bible just fell apart because the camel bones were dated to be from 900 B.C. I guess my faith is destroyed.

By the way, aren’t real scientists today supposed to pretend that Christ’s birth wasn’t the pivotal event of all history and then use the silly B.C.E. and C.E. suffixes when dating stuff?
