Newly-minted Mayor of New York City Bill De Blasio is calling for school closures on two Muslim holidays and the Lunar New Year.

No problem, he’ll keep school open for the 4th of July to make up.
In the near future, the poor little babies will need to interrupt vacation/holiday to occasionally go to school.

Does the mayor of NYC actually have authority over the schools or is he just flapping his mouth?
Difficult to schedule in advance like Jewish and Christian holdidays. Muslim holidays [ see here ] of Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha cannot accurately be scheduled according to the Gregorian calendar used in US. Actual date won't be known until the new moon is sighted and then Muslims do not agree on dates.
DeBlasio missed that part of the scenario!

Dear Liberal Dip-Sticks,
We don’t “celebrate” holidays in the schools with days off to promote religious values. We do it because the holidays are of such widespread American cultural appeal that a majority of students won’t be available for class anyway.
Think about it... if we didn’t close for Christmas, would your child be at school if you are a Christian? In most cases, no. The school is closed to respect the wishes of the community which does not want to send their children to school during an important religious or cultural event.
Stop using our schools to promote other agendas. We (conservatives) generally only close the schools for practical, not agenda-driven, purposes.
I don’t know about his weather predicting skill, but that woodchuck is a good judge of character.

There is more absurdity to Ramadan than meets the eye, however. The damn month-long garbage can be any time of year - they don’t use the same calendar!
Jackass PC butt-kissers jumped on Ramadan ONLY AFTER 9/11, when it happened to be near “winter holidays”. So these fools said we have to celebrate all “winter” holidays together in school, but last year it was in August! Has nothing to do with winter!

You are correct. But only recently has this point been brought up. I guess because Christmas holiday is so ingrained in everyone’s minds over a century that no-one ever thinks of it as just being a convenience, rather than a birthright.
That’s the first photo I have seen of the event. Sheesh! First DiBlasio throws the poor animal, and then the woman punches it below the belt.
