New 'Godzilla' Finally Revealed: How Latest Radioactive Reptile Stacks Up to the Original
Yahoo Movies ^ | February 25, 2014 | Amanda Bell

Ever since the Japanese original "Godzilla" (first titled "Godjira") took the horror genre to all new heights, literally and figuratively, with its larger-than-life reptilian beast, there've been a number of very varied attempts to capitalize on the creature's fear potential. The latest of which — director Gareth Edwards's upcoming release starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston — just released a new trailer that is bigger in scale than any previous incarnation, smashing up everything from San Francisco to Las Vegas

While some installments have been more favored than others, from the looks (and sounds) of this newest iteration it seems that Edwards's take might just be hearkening back more to the roots of Godzilla's movie magic — especially within the latest round of materials released from the pic.

I think it worked in Blair Witch, to compensate for the lack of an actual monster in the movie.

It doesn't work in Cloverfield because it takes away from enjoying the horror of a very real monster.

I understand what you're saying but I thought it worked well in Cloverdale too - and that's purely an asthetic opinion. Reasonable people (like yourself) can disagree. Like I said, different strokes.

Yeah, I heard those comments too. I still think it was great. I’ve always loved the big fighting robots and the monsters were great too.

It’s you either hated it or loved it. I loved it. I also enjoyed most of the Godzilla movies too. Although the one with Broderick was really on the so-so side. Cloverfield might have been better but the jerky photography made my stomach turn, (literally).

This is made by the same production company as Pacific Rim.

I completely agree. I am hoping when (if) a sequel is made, they don’t use the herky jerky handheld method.

Godzilla was the English mangling of the Japanese title... we just spelled it phonetically.

I saw a 3D trailer at the Imax theater — it looked worth watching.

I remember we had a three Movie Marathon one time on that Wrestling Network back when it was still called the SciFi Channel.

And my father sat trough the Original Godzilla, Godzilla's Revenge (oh no!) and Terror of MechaGodzilla so he could cut out the commercials on the VHS tape (remember having to do that!?!?!)

I was only like 10 and being scared Sh!tless by the Original Movie.

I wasn't until 14 Years Later I when I bought it on DVD that the SciFi version had been edited down by about 12 minutes!
