keyt.com ^ | UPDATED: 03:06 AM PDT Apr 06, 2014

The trouble started about 8 p.m. Saturday night as sheriff's deputies responded to two stabbings on Camino Del Sur. Two people were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown.

About 9:30 p.m., a UCSB police officer was hit in the head with a backpack full of liquor bottles. Two Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies also responded and were injured. One deputy was hit with a bottle and will undergo surgery on his hand. The violence escalated and another deputy was hit in the head with a brick. The UCSB police officer and both deputies are expected to be fine.

About 10:30 p.m., it turned into a riot with people in the crowd tearing down stop signs, setting mattresses on fire, and throwing more bottles, bricks and other objects at law enforcement. All emergency personnel were told to leave the area for their safety including paramedics and county firefighters.

People drinking and having a good times, and then the SWAT teams show up and start beating the crap out of people. And they call it a riot. Who incited the violence? The militarized cops, that’s who.

And I missed it?!?!

Meanwhile over at the monster truck show last night in Pocatello there was the opening prayer followed by the presenting of the Colors (in the spotlights) with the National Anthem sung by a barbershop style quartet (bottom left). And one marriage proposal.

There WAS a casualty later but no injuries.

From the pictures and video at www.keyt.com, it looks like college aged white kids with some black and Asian. Is this just spring break partying or the beginning of a long summer taken together with the Tucson, NCAA B-ball riot?

Righto. When people are drinking, having a good time and stabbing people, and then cops who show up in response to the stabbings are injured, the cops should not respond.

Or possibly they shouldn’t respond to the stabbings.

Okay, who brought the mattresses? Do people normally bring mattresses to a party or riot?

That was my first thought as well... how are there always random mattresses laying around when trouble is brewing? If I ever see some mattresses in unexpected locations in any numbers whatsoever, I think that’ll be my cue to get out of Dodge.

EXACTLY!!! ROFLMAO!!!

Someone should make a funny video starring mattresses that hang out in the ‘hood, college campuses, sports stadiums, and other places where riots seem to break out all too often, and then self-immolate at just the right time.

I’ve known a couple of dorm mattresses that needed to be burned. They made better toboggans than beds.

Are there usually stabbings at the “good times” in which you participate?

At Kent State, it was couches that were burned. Porch couches.

Mobs are a dangerous phenomena, be it a protest, college revelry, or Trevon supporters, or patriotic revolutionaries. There are always a few unbalanced people therin who are seeking the cover of numbers to engage in vandalism or violence. There are sometimes leaders who encourage mob action for perceived political gains.

Parents should always teach their children to almost always avoid the excitement of a large crowd, except at sporting/music events, etc.
