Don't forget this week is a Saturday night race!

and tomorrow Shell is giving 22 cents off per gallon when you use the Shell $aver Card. This is different than the Shell Fuel Rewards Network card available in Shell stations. The Shell $aver Card has to have a checking account linked to it. This is the card I can't manage to obtain from Shell because they can't process a PO Box as a mailing address, :-(

Teams to test at Michigan UPDATE:

a few NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will test (tires) at Michigan International Speedway on Tuesday, April 8 & Wednesday, April 9. Scheduled to test are: #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr., #16-Greg Biffle, #15-Clint Bowyer, #21-Trevor Bayne and #31-Ryan Newman. The Turn 1 grandstand seats will be open for fans free of charge on April 8-9.(MIS)(4-2/8-2014)

UPDATE: Greg Biffle’s #16 Ford Fusion was first car on track at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Tuesday in a delayed start to the two-day Goodyear tire test there by several Sprint Cup teams. Four Cup outfits, led off by Biffle, who drives for Roush Fenway Racing, and #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the track mid- to late-afternoon after a lengthy delay due to moisture on the 2-mile oval thought to be originating from behind the concrete walls following a brutal winter. The problem was addressed by MIS staff and Goodyear personnel and testing finally cranked up around 4:00pm/et. It was scheduled to continue into early evening, or when it became too dark to run safely. #21-Trevor Bayne and #15-Clint Bowyer also participated in Tuesday’s test. #31-Ryan Newman is expected to join in with the others at MIS Wednesday. Fans are welcome to watch the tire test free of charge Wednesday from the Turn 1 grandstand seats.(Detroit Free Press)(4-9-2014)

MWR & Aaron’s to honor Florida State at Daytona in July:

Florida State University’s trophy case holds lots of hardware, but none for motorsports. Aaron’s and Brian Vickers plan to change that. Vickers’ #55 Aaron’s Toyota will carry a special paint scheme honoring FSU’s 2013 BCS National Championship football team when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Daytona International Speedway on July 5. The garnet and gold paint scheme on the Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota will include the FSU BCS National Championship logo on the hood. Vickers will also wear a special FSU driver uniform for the race. Fans at FSU’s April 12 Spring Game will see the car unveiling and watch a special video message from Vickers on the videoboard. FSU will collect hoods from the race car for display at block parties, road trips and The Jimbo Fisher Call-In Show throughout the 2014 football season.(MWR), see an image of the scheme on the #55 Team Schemes page.(4-9-2014)

Michigan is the single best argument against restrictor plates there is in my opinion. Race speeds routinely top 200mph into the turns yet the track is known for being relatively crash free.

I still say all they need to do to slow them down is plug in the Laptop and remap the ECM.

in the 90's i had a Z/28, my boss and his boss both had Vettes but all three had the same engine

my boss bought a program that we loaded onto a LT and when you plugged it into the car, you could see what the motor was doing in realtime... the passenger could tweak parameters while on the road

it was slick as sh!t, but voided all the warranties if anything ever happened

I misread Your Post

Michigan is the single best argument against restrictor plates there is in my opinion. Race speeds routinely top 200mph into the turns yet the track is known for being relatively crash free.

Still there is no reason that the ECM Mapping can't handle all the speed problems at ANY Track.

'Cept brainless is involved.

Boeing Built Marines an Osprey Jeep with NASCAR Connection:

One of the drawbacks of the Marines’ MV-22 Osprey has been its inability to take aboard an all-terrain, multi-role combat vehicle and deliver it to the fight. The vehicle would have to be only five-feet wide to fit the tight confines of the tilt-rotor aircraft and also have enough power to handle the 60 percent grade of the off-on ramp.

Boeing and MSI Defense Solutions, of Mooresville, N.C., have developed the Phantom Badger Internally Transportable Vehicle as a solution to the Marines’ problem. MSI Defense Solutions worked with NASCAR teams before it started working with the Pentagon. The 60-inch wide Badger has a 240 horsepower multi-fuel engine, can ford 3 feet of water and can hit 80 mph on paved roads, according to the manufacturers. The vehicle is a much easier fit into the more spacious cabins of the CH-47, the C-130 and the C-17.

Boeing played up the modularity of the Badger that would allow it to be configured for a range of missions, including reconnaissance, explosive ordnance disposal, mounted weaponry, and combat search and rescue.(defensetech)(4-10-2014)

Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes to Sponsor #51 at Darlington:

HScott Motorsports announced that Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes will sponsor the #51 Chevy driven by Justin Allgaier in this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. Sherwin-Williams is the official provider of automotive paint and transportation finishes for NASCAR and supplies these products to HScott Motorsports as well. The Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes logo will be on the hood of the #51 car, while the quarter-panel will feature the Sherwin-Williams product AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System. AWX Performance Plus Waterborne basecoat is an easy-to-apply, fast drying basecoat that provides excellent color match while meeting the strictest VOC limits in North America. “We are pleased to be on the No. 51 car at Darlington Raceway,” said Bobby Moody, Director of Motorsports for Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes. “We value our partnership with HScott Motorsports, and we’re looking forward to watching a Sherwin-Williams car race under the lights at Darlington.”(HScott Motorsports), see an image of the scheme on the #51 Team Schemes page.(4-10-2014)

Jeep JK can be stripped of all the niceties, and they would have a lower (x4-x5) cost vehicle with better performance. Good on Mooresville, but I prefer to ford as deep as my snorkel allows;-)

Shallow banking and serious speed at Michigan prove that restrictor plates are unnecessary in my opinion. The drivers will slow for the turns.

Its been routine for at least a decade for them to enter turn 1 at 200+mph. When I worked security there I used to get stationed right at the entrance to turn one where they were right out by the wall and wound out and going full tilt. That’s astounding speed for that much car and it rocks you in the wind.

Yes.
I’ve been standing at the fence on the straightaway in Indy when Indy cars come by at 240 (back in the mid 1990s).
It was like a shock wave.

You guys are so lucky. The only race I’ve seen were the mules at the Swains Flat fairgrounds
