Nirvana Steals the Show at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Celebration [President Reagan mocked]

The band was introduced by Stipe, who delivered an eloquent speech that addressed the power and historical importance of the band as part of a counterculture that somehow became mainstream. "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard," he said. "In the '80s and early '90s, the idea of a hopeful, democratic country had practically been dismantled by Iran Contra, by AIDS, by the Reagan, Bush Sr. administrations. With their music and their attitudes, Nirvana blasted through all that with crystalline, nuclear rage and fury. Nirvana were kicking against the system to show a sweet and beautiful, but fed-up fury coupled with howling vulnerability. They spoke truth, and a lot of people listened. They were singular and loud and melodic and deeply original. And that voice… That voice. Kurt, we miss you."

“That’s funny since Nirvana wasn’t a political band. And many who followed Nirvana while on SubPop during the early grunge era knows full well that Nirvana completely changed their sound to market to a broader market.”

Same here man, GNR and Metallica were my Beatles and Stones. And people think that Cobain was a hippy are greatly fooled. The ones who were lefties were Pearl Jam and Soundgarden but Cobain rarely delved into politics as he was more into music.

I have two of Nirvana’s CD’s and when listening to them I’ve never once thought of Reagan.

Grohl and Novoselic, on the other hand, are big-time Lefties.

The collective intelligence of the group, the cultural and political awareness, understanding of the forces that drove history, or the ones propelling us into a bleak future, don’t rate high enough to measure, much less credit as a moving force. ...But I like some of their music, and I’m glad they played it, and I was sad to see Kurt Cobain destroy himself at such a young age.

I hear Nirvana songs on the radio.

Both on older format like Jack and contemporary rock stations.

I never heard a Nirvana song when the dude was alive.

I know their songs only from radio and hearing them over the course of the past few years.

I don’t know the names of their songs, but the songs I have heard are ones that have these snippets of lyrics (maybe they’re all the same song).

Mary. Mary.

Come as you are

Rape me

Eat your cancer

Stipe is and always has been a radical leftie. Never showers. Stinks like crazy. But early R.E.M. (Green and before) was just outstanding music. So radically different from everything out at that time in the early-mid 80’s.

“The ones who were lefties were Pearl Jam and Soundgarden...”

Yeah. And Pearl Jam was boring and the dude singer couldn’t hold a note.

Novaselic, from what I have read was pretty much a lifer lib in the political sense, but I think Ghrol is more a Katy Perry type liberal.

Whereas Novaselic was pretty much done with being a rock star after Cobain offed himself, Ghrol wanted to keep going and keep being a success. And like all things Hollywood/Music, he had to toe the line. When you look back at Perry during the Warped Tour era, she did “You’re so Gay” to great applause. Then Stardom called and she “Kissed a girl and liked it”. And lo and behold, she became the new Madonna.

I am not sure why some people claim that drug use was rampant in those days...

I believe Novoselic is huge into left-wing politics in WA state. He is part of the movement to abolish the electoral college.

What did the Nirvana fan say after the heroin wore off?

“Man, this band sucks.”

“Nirvana were kicking against the system to show a sweet and beautiful, but fed-up fury coupled with howling vulnerability. “

Non thinking, Marxist, big government fools. Screw them all.
Reagan’s vision and actions helped restore TRUE power to the people and firmly embraced the power of the individual OVER the power of a controlling over bearing, mind controlling big government.
Again; screw these lefty Reagan hating shallow thinking leftist creeps.
I have had enough of their mindless drivel.
Time to stand up to them and call them out for their vapid BS.

No he wasn’t. For sure he had leftist views but not a “huge lefty”.He could care less about who was in office or any particular bill. He was pretty much about making music and getting high.
