38 dead in Odesa, Ukraine
Ukrayinska Pravda ^ | May 2, 2014

Posted on 05/02/2014 5:59:22 PM PDT by Ivan Mazepa

Governor of the Odessa region, Vladimir Nemirovsky blamed police for what happened in the city earlier today.

He wrote on his Facebook page:

"Today's casualties in Odessa could have been avoided. The only thing that law enforcement officers had to do was not to have trade off their homeland, their conscience, but stay true to the oath to the Ukrainian people" - he wrote.

"If police had complied with the request of the Odesa region administration, and didn’t get involved in diplomacy, today would have been different. For most of them, as always, first, was not their country, but their own personal comfort. Shame.”

Two hours earlier, Nemirovsky had emphasized that "actions by Odesa citizens, to neutralize and arrest armed terrorists are considered legitimate".

As was reported earlier, during the march by the Odesa and Kharkiv soccer fans (who are noted for their patriotism and support of the united Ukraine) they were attacked by the "separatists" armed with bats and guns.

Four people were killed in this clash.

After this, the crowd advanced on and destroyed the separatist camp on Kulikovo Pole, while separatists had barricaded themselves in the Trade Union Building located near-by.

During the confrontation, the building was set on fire and activists burned the tents belonging to the separatists.

As a result of the fire in the Trade Union Building, 38 people were killed.

I was cheering this on when I heard about it. The average Ukrainian is going to need to rise up and drive out these thieves and killers. They can’t expect help from the subverted police force or the U.S. or EU.

The accusation against the police in the Eastern Ukraine, and now Odesa, has been the story for weeks now. During pro-Ukrainian demonstrations in Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv, the police were unwilling to stop separatists from attacking the pro-Ukrainian crowd. Actually, the accusation is more serious, it’s that police were aiding the separatists. For example, there was a massive beating in Donetsk last week, when police just moved aside letting the separatists through and a dozen or so pro-Ukrainian supporters ended up seriously hurt.

This was also the case in Odesa today when police wore the same identification ribbons as the separatists

Or in this video of the Odesa police who could not be bothered with a dead pro-Ukrainian supporter or shots fired in the distance (early in the day, before the fire)

This police inaction should only result in citizens self-organizing and taking actions into their own hands, like what happened in Odesa today

Are you disputing the photos? There was a live stream of all this.

What I saw was that the shooting was from the Russian/police side. The bodies dropped on the Ukrainian side. Literally.

The bit about the police coordination with the pro-Russians is important. It shows today was a planned provocation to me.

It seems very similar to the assault on pro-Ukraine marchers in Donetsk on Tuesday. Except today the Pro-Russian thugs got an ass kicking. Then the Green Men jumped in and the shooting started. After that the deaths at the Trade Union Hall. That’s the order of events today. It’s a terribly sad and once again the blood is on Putin’s hands.

I only meant what I wrote and no more—no dispute here. I’m not acquainted with Ukrainian publications but have studied Russian ones in the past and present.

My point was that some of my fellow Americans might see “Pravda” as part of the publication name and assume that it is the Russian Pravda. That kind of erroneous perception happens often here and shows in comments.

Kind of like the Nazis barricading Jews in a synagogue and burning it down.

Ukrainian Pravda is the PREMIER news site in Ukraine, now active for over a decade. It was founded by Georgiy Gongadze, a journalist who was kidnapped and killed in 2000. It’s pro-western in its coverage, but you will see some articles from the pro-Russian side. (Actually, now that it’s wartime, pro-Russian side isn’t there. I’d have to read the Free Republic for the Russian side)))

The only regret is they don’t have a large selection of translations into English.

The word “Pravda” is much older than the commie rag. “Rus’ka Pravda” was a the legal code of the medieval Kiev Rus state.

Yes and they have had nothing to say these past few weeks while their boys (Team KGB) beat down, kidnapped and murdered Ukrainians. This is all armchair sport to that crowd. It’s sad because this is real and people are dying. Putin and his stooges need to GTFO of Ukraine.

I witness the Russians in action in Berlin.
A life changing event.

These posters are sick fools who live a easy life and never seen real impersonal cold evil upfront.

Thank you very much for the information.

"I’d have to read the Free Republic for the Russian side"

Sad but true. This might help, though. American Internet political discussions are not an accurate reflection of the general American opinion. More of our most spoiled (decadent) Americans more often use such forums. We should remember when seeing invasions by communist/fascist nations, too much pride goes before a fall. Ukrainians are not as alone as they seem to be. They must only fight as if they were alone and fearless for now--as if their backs were to a cliff.

“I was cheering this on when I heard about it. “

You were cheering on dozens of pro-separatists being burned to death in a building hit by molotovs from their political opponents?

Please lay down on the couch and share with us all your violent fantasies.

“The average Ukrainian is going to need to rise up and drive out these thieves and killers. “

It turns out that 90% of the killing today was done by the people you were cheering on.

I think the burning to death of these dozens of people will change the psychology of the region, and newly convince people of the need for self defense groups and separatism.

15 were from Russia and 10 from Transnistria. Foreigners using violence and demanding carving up a country are not separatists. They are terrorists.

I’m just glad to see that it’s still civil on the FR forum and arguments fly back and forth, because on the Ukrainian/Russian sites, it degenerated into name calling long ago.

And the many Ukrainians shot to death yesterday? Not a word about it from you. Why is that?

Russian war tourists. Just like in E. Ukraine. Lovely.

The putin parrots have an agenda and will ignore all facts that this was a Team FSB provocation. Rent a mob, armed green men, police collusion, etc. etc. We’ve seen this horror movie all over E. & S. Ukraine the past few months. It’s made in Moscow.

Hi Lodi90, my comment was a direct response to a person who typed in that they were “thrilled” with the attack on the separatists.

This is what they were thrilled by, dozens of political opponents dying in a fire.

The vast majority of people who died in the days events were the ones who died in the fire.

But feel free to smear people and report them to the relevant authorities.
