Mere Christianity is C.S. Lewis's forceful and accessible doctrine of Christian belief. First heard as informal radio broadcasts and then published as three separate books - The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality - Mere Christianity brings together what Lewis saw as the fundamental truths of the religion. Rejecting the boundaries that divide Christianity's many denominations, C.S. Lewis finds a common ground on which all those who have Christian faith can stand together, proving that "at the centre of each there is something, or a Someone, who against all divergences of belief, all differences of temperament, all memories of mutual persecution, speaks the same voice."
To each his own. Not surprised. Will never struck me as a deep thinker. My father was one. Smart on some things and shallow on others.
How very sad. He does not believe in the miracle of life. What a miserable existence.
And I have to give credit where credit is due. I've disagreed with a lot of George Will's positions over the years, but I've never sensed a shred of hostility on his part towards any religious inclinations of his fellow Americans.
Nope. Cannot be coincidence. God's there, and He's having a lot of fun.
George’s bowtie has been tied on too tightly.
Many have had their doubts just as Thomas, but as the Bible is read and digested, it’s hard to believe that it was all concocted.
I'm fortunate enough to be a Christian.I'm willing to converse with agnostics but have no respect for atheists.
So are the majority of Americans in cities on the East and West Coasts.
This explains a lot!
I am just not persuaded. Thats all, he added
Often, when people are so brilliant, they see right through the whole ‘invisible man in the sky’ thing. Like me when I was about 14 or so.
Thing have changed considerably in my mind since then...
I thought Will was a Catholic in the 80’s?
Will has been a bit disingenuous, or even dishonest, to hide this for so long. It was clearly self serving for him to pretend otherwise for decades.
I get the impression that the excessive formality is a form of stoicism.
Then perhaps Mr Will has a satisfactory answer to the question of why it is wrong to expedite humans back to their chemical building blocks if it gives one pleasure.
No wonder he got less and less actually conservative.
Simple and succinct: you’re a jerk, George!
I respect an agnostic more than an atheist.
An atheist has ceased investigating and closed his mind.
IMO George is stretching mightily these days to say something - anything - that will get him some attention and respect - his attempts to look erudite and profound come off as weak and trite in comparison to what Krauthammer has to offer every time they appear on the Fox panel in the same sitting - he’s no longer the reigning conservative and it’s showing......
God either is, or isn’t.
I choose is. Your mileage may vary.
