McDonald's hires 7,000 touch-screen cashiers

The touch screens will only accept debit or credit cards, adding to the slow death knell of cash and coins. This all goes along with an overall revamp of McDonald's restaurants worldwide aimed at projecting a modern image as opposed to the old-fashioned golden arches with a slightly creepy (to my taste anyway) clown guy hanging around the french fries.

Oddly, this first effort at automation is in Europe. But I think its a safe bet that America is next.

I wonder if those touch screen systems will demand $15 an hour?

One more step to being able to track and isolate consumers. Mark of the beast type stuff.

Only because the current burger flippers are too stupid to know better than bite the hand that feeds them.

More casualties of the Commie Core math legacy. Kids won't be able to properly give back change, let alone do it quickly.

The programmers in Indian who maintain their software probably don’t make $15/hr lol.

These are already in use at all the Sheetz stores in the Maryland and Virginia area. I much prefer to talk to a person.

will the touch screens eliminate jobs?

Will the customers just swipe their debit or credit card, and also punch in their order on a kiosk? Will this eliminate the need for counter help to take people’s orders?

To me, this is a downside of modern systems of using credit and debit cards, in that, there is a trail of everything you do in which money changes hands. We’re losing some privacy rights there.

Suppose the overseers of Obamacare see you are going to McDonald’s and eating junk food too often??? The implications of this are not good.

As of now, it’s fine that we have a choice of spending cash, or using debit/credit cards. To me, it’s a big step to get to where debit/credit cards are required, and cash not accepted.

Probably not odd at all. I believe European workers make more money, have more rights and benefits and are therefore more expensive than workers in Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa or Oceania.

Why not? That is all the cashiers do today. I tell them I want a #1 and they touch a #1 on the touch screen....Now that the marxists are pushing for “a living wage” we might as well just fire thire buns!

Do the Sheetz stores require that you use a card? Do they not accept currency and coins anymore?

So much for telling people that they can always get a job flippin’ burgers...

I’ve known for years that when worst came to worst, and I got truly desperate, I could go to Labor Ready, sign up, and have some grueling dirty job within a day or so.

I went to Labor Ready this very morning (this was originally posted on the 12th).

Guess what? You can’t just walk in and be a day laborer anymore. Noooooo! You need to be interviewed and get a Tier II background check first.

Oh, and the next available slot for an interview is on the 27th! (in three weeks!)
