I run linux on an old netbook, but it’s too under-powered and not really worth upgrading.

Have Lubuntu running on a Dell mini 1018. Works well as my backup.

btw,.. when I went to ARMY.. of course they made fun of my AF tatt.... anyway, I was stuck with driving the apc.. and was stuck with the worst Capt.... remember a run (in white sands).. asked him if I should go around the “puddle”... I told him that I should avoid... (BTW, just realized, this is way off topic(OT).. I learned our APC DOES float.. but not the tot behind us (all of out gear) :/ ... btw the most important thing.. this Cpt... was off by 6 miles :/

I bounced around the gun section a bit.
I got out of AIT and was ammo team chief for awhile, an e1 doing an e5 job.
Mainly because I knew how to set the darn vernier scale fuzes.
Then I ended up as the rto.
And picked up the advance party position.
“We want e5’s doing e5 stuff” was the reason for that.
“How do I set this darn thing again?” Was a question I got to hear fairly often about the vernier fuzes we got, until they mercifully quit issuing them.
M557 “Don’t fire in the rain.”

Are there any concerns running MINT on a SSD drive?

I got to touch most of that stuff.
Especially that M557 fuze that we were repeatedly told NOT to fire in the rain as it might premature.
Never got to find out if that was true or not.

I don't dual boot. Haven't done so in a really long time, because I just really don't like the idea of having to reboot for anything. I use VMs mostly to check out look and feel, and to see if anything is missing that is a showstopper for me.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for HTML editing? I've been using Quanta+ for years. I like the fact that it is completely customizable as far as keybinding and stuff is concerned. Believe it or not, I'm actually using a key setup that is similar to that employed by "Homesite" more than a decade ago. My personal configuration would be absolutely and completely non-intuitive for someone else who sat down at my desk, but I know exactly what does what. If I could find another program that didn't stick ugly code in there, and would let me configure it so that when I highlight something and press ctrl-shift-p, it will wrap the text in 'p' tags. i'm not picky (grin)

BTW.. booting up 10x+ faster than previous installs

I wonder if that type of performance improvement would carry over to my VM running Mint 15? It does take a longish time to start up the VM and even logon. Might be worth a try.

Install Linux? download the ISO.. burn it to DVD (and bootable), or to USB (bootable).. You can run it LIVE.. and never touch your HDS, just to test it out..

If you're going to make a bootable DVD, don't just burn the .ISO file to the DVD. Your burning software should have a "Burn Image" option. That's the one to use to make the DVD bootable.

(I had a friend who just burned the .ISO (not using "Burn Image") to the DVD and couldn't figure out why it would not boot.)

If your computer can boot from a USB, then it's very simple to create a bootable pen drive (should be a least 4GB in size) using the Universal USB Installer program:

The beauty of bootable USB is that you can reuse the pen drive for other things -- like testing another Linux distro ;)

Thanks for your replies/help.I will read the article. I am not (yet) the customizable kind of guy, so maybe I’ll just forgo Mint and go to the latest ubuntu in 64 bit, since I have a 64 bit machine.

1 thing that Mint DOESN’T do, is activate the FireWall... people need to be aware of that so they can activate it themselves ;^)
