Three hours of television a day can kill

Couch potatoes beware.

Watching three hours or more television each day may double the risk of early death compared with people who watch one or less—even if you are young and healthy, a study suggests.

Researchers followed more than 13,000 university graduates for an average of 8.2 years and discovered that those who spent hours glued to the box were more likely to die young. […]

Nearly half of the deaths were caused by cancer (44 percent) while nearly one fifth were as a result of heart problems. …

I'd be more interested in what the people who die early watch as opposed to how long.

People who are fans certain types of programming tend to lean towards the , shall we say, gross, diabetic, and obese side of the health spectrum.

Or is it that young people with cancer and heart problems were more likely to watch more TV?

Three hours of television a day can kill

As opposed to watching 2 hours and 59 minutes of television a day or less and living forever. Who dreams up this drivel?

I’ve been a dedicated couch potato for about five years, probably doing about seven hours of TV a day. I have gained probably 20 pounds in that time, and have lost interest in almost everything. I flip around among Fox News, Seinfeld, Cops and an occasional movie. I kind of like it. It’s a good lifestyle for me.

Here we go again. They see a correlation, and call it causation.

I doubt watching the tv has anything to do with it.

More likely it's from the toxic effects of the glue.

However researchers found no significant association between the time spent using a computer or driving and higher risk of premature death from all causes.

“Our findings suggest adults may consider increasing their physical activity, avoid long sedentary periods" . . . said lead researcher Prof Miguel Martinez-Gonzalez.

I'm amazed at how stupid this research team is. Sitting in front of the TV causes problems but sitting in front of the computer for the same amount of time doesn't cause problems. So what is the conclusion? Well logically, wouldn't it be that "sitting" isn't the problem? That it has something to do with either the TV or the other characteristics of people who sit in front of the TV? Its as if they drew the one conclusion that is not supported by the data.

I probably don’t watch one full hour of TV per day. I cannot stand all the left wing garbage on the boob tube.

They see a correlation, and call it causation.

Anyone who has ever watched television, even for a few seconds, is going to die.

There are not a lot of other things to do when you are laid up. You can read, do hand crafts, use the computer and watch tv.

If you really are not doing well, tv tends to win out, because it requires less effort.

“those who spent hours glued to the box were more likely to die young”

And people who more than enough time on their hands to watch a minimum of 3 hours of tv every day, usually dont want to live long anyhow. Myself included.
