Today, the gun world is buzzing with news of a "revolution in silencers." SilencerCo has announced today they will be producing the Salvo 12, the first ever commercially produced shotgun sound suppressor.
The official press release reads:
“Confirming its place as a trailblazer in the firearms industry, suppressor manufacturer SilencerCo has unveiled the first commercially-viable shotgun silencer ever produced. “The Salvo 12 represents a revolution in silencers, not just an evolution,” said Joshua Waldron, Chief Executive Officer for SilencerCo. “There is a huge installed base of shotgun hunters and shooters that has been waiting for a product like this for a long time, and we are proud to deliver it.”
SilencerCo was formed in 2008 and is one of the leading manufacturers of silencers for firearms.

"The Salvo 12 is modular in nature — the shooter can add or remove sections to balance their sound suppression, weight and length needs. At its full length of 12 inches, it brings sound down to 137 dB at the muzzle — well below the 140 dB hearing-safe level set by OSHA."

BUT, how can this avoid being an extreme choke being added to the barrel? I mean, EXTREME........
Why? There is no reason it has to make the barrel opening smaller to do it’s job. It probably has a very mild choke effect just by virtual of making the barrel effectively longer. But there is no reason a silencer would construct the barrel.

I thought silencers were against federal law. Wasn’t one of the charges against Randy Weaver that he was going to sell an undercover agent a silencer? Or am I thinking of someone else?
I’m a waterfowler and dove hunter. Waterfowling, if I get to shoot 5 times it’s a good morning. Dove hunting you don’t shoot magnums but you do shoot more often.
I wonder if the extra length and weight would be worth the trouble not wearing electronic ear protection?

Naw, he had allegedly shortened a shotgun barrel just slightly under the limit. Very slightly IIRC.
