The device operated like the X10 system which sent a pulse coded high frequency (100KHZ) signal atop the 60HZ carrier wave. Such hardware is very sensitive to line noise from lightning

Yep, which is why most of them now are RF instead of carrier-current-controlled.

I lived a long long time without a smart meter and did just fine and have changed out mains many times over many years without incident. Never burned one house from a disconnect.

I just don’t see how we could have possibly lived this long without smart meters and computers and microprocessors and IT and electronics engineers. /s

From where I sit it created a lot of useless jobs out of thin air.

You’re wrong on this one and you miss the bigger points.

There is no reason whatsoever for a lineman to show up at someone’s house and give the homeowner’s hell over working on their breaker panel or their in-home electrical system. I know several homeowners that pack heat and would gladly put the fear of God into such an a-hole lineman. He’s lucky to be alive. It was intrusive and none of his business period.

Anyone who wants the real truth from an engineer who designs them for a living, speak up.

Are you familiar with the Neptune T-10(water)?
