NASCAR star Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver who was walking on the track in a sprint car race on Saturday night.

The other driver, Kevin Ward Jr., had collided with Stewart on the previous lap, leaving Ward’s car with a flat tire and pushed into the wall. As officials threw a caution, Ward left his car and began walking down the track — gesturing angrily toward Stewart — before being clipped and dragged 50 feet by Stewart’s car.

Several spectators told Bob Pockrass of The Sporting News that Stewart appeared to throttle his car before colliding with Ward.

If you are a race fan I can’t believe you would make a statement like this:

A fool and his money are soon parted. What kind of ‘effing idiot would risk his well-being, his finances, and now his reputation over something like this?

Especially knowing Tony Stewart’s roots.”””

Want some more education?

Look up the information on Roger Penske.

Comes from a higher middle class family.
Got a good education.
Raced from a very young age.

Has become a formidable businessman & not only in racing. He literally saved Hertz from bankruptcy.

How many people do you think Rick Hendrick has on his NASCAR payroll? About 650.

You don’t do that because you pulled the prize out of the Cracker Jack box.

Peter Revson was the heir to the Revlon cosmetics fortune.

He raced. AND HE WAS DAMN GOOD AT IT.

Marks Dees was one of the heirs to the Crocker Bank fortune.

He raced motorcycles—land speed record machines & endurance horses. He once told me he was pretty sure he was the only racer who had raced all 3 kinds of transport across the Great Salt Lake boundaries.

He died in an ordinary accident—on a road that was under construction. Noon- Broad daylight—NOT his fault.

I would like to know the details of the following:

EXACTLY how long is that track?

Exactly where did the kid crash his car? Front stretch? back stretch?

The caution flag would be thrown at the start/finish line.

Can someone tell me these details?

IF the kid was on the back stretch—and the flag was thrown on the line on the front stretch, how much ‘slowing down’ could anyone expect?

IF the kid was on the far end of the first turn—then even less time for ANY of the cars to slow down.

This was an ACCIDENT:

Caused when a driver turned himself into a PEDESTRIAN.

...what would the comments on this thread be if Tony Stewart was black?

It would make no difference because Conservatives are not racists. The only comments that deal with skin color on this site are from paid leftist plants sent to Free Republic from commie outfits such as the SPLC, NAACP, SEIU and the DemonRAT party. Conservatism is championed by fine blacks such as Thomas Sowell, Allen West, Dr. Ben Carson and Clarence Thomas.

Recall the offensive comments of summie 2009 when the Kenyan Marxist muzzie was in France vacationing (as usual). All of the racism was traced back to a carefully-orchestrated false flag operation from commie agitators. The moderators pulled that entire thread after the origin of the racist remarks was established.

And here's one more proof that FR is not racist. When the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Championship, several of the black players on that were lauded here.

Mark Martin will probably go down in history as the greatest driver never to win a championship. I’m betting he would be the first to admit that his non aggressive style cost him a couple of championships.

Just last week Joba Chamberlain pitching for the Tigers hit Derrick Jeter with an inside fastball. You could tell that he felt bad for hitting him and they’re apparently best of friends but Chamberlain kept pitching because its what he does. He’ll pitch inside to Jeter again if he faces him again because its how you beat Jeter.

I think he also owns 1 or 2 others.

These tracks bring alot of money into very small towns.

What would the comments be if instead of Stewart it was Danica Patrick?

Nut, I am pretty sure you would never try to enter the path of the cars still racing. You would go over the wall AWAY from the action.

Ward should have done the same.

Full disclosure NOT a Tony Stewart fan.

Tony Stewart is a supremely talented, dangerously reckless, recklessly arrogant self centered moron who is never at fault - even when he clearly is.

When he intentionally ran I believe Kenseth off the road at Daytona, just turned left and tried to and did wreck him at full speed I couldn’t believe he wasn’t black flagged. At that point if I was running Nascar he would have been hauled off the track and suspended the rest of the year to think about the way he drives. He has little regard for human life, his temper takes precedent, screw Tony Stewart.

With that being said in no way shape or form do I believe he intentionally tried to hit or kill that kid.

Do I believe he might have gunned it to say FU kid or give him a face full of dirt and chuckle on his way by? Absolutely possible and in that case criminal.

Do I also believe he might have gunned it to avoid him? Absolutely, he’s a reckless horses ass but not a stone killer.

Only Stewart knows for sure and I’m sure his story will be he revved the car to avoid him, which I hope is true for all involved, even him.

Now if you asked me before yesterday who would be most likely to be involved in this kind of tragedy/accident without hesitation my answer would have been Tony Stewart.

I hope he wasn’t trying to scare the kid, but he might have been, and if he was I doubt he has the character to admit it and serve the time that it comes with.

Just so you know. NASCAR is a dictatorship. Whatever they say goes.

The problem with NASCAR is their turn to liberalism, embracing "diversity", multiculturalism and political correctness. Featuring Moochelle Obama at an event is typical of their bone-headed decisions. Likewise, fleeing from cigarette sponsorships was another big move down the wrong path. It was then and, in my mind, should always be the Winston Cup.

I've only seen one video and you can't see Stewart's intention in that one.

If this whole scenario happened on the street -- with ordinary people -- gunning the engine would demonstrate bad intent in front of any jury, regardless of why or in what manner the pedestrian walked into traffic.

The way these cars handle, he could have been gunning the engine to avoid the kid, or to scare the kid and give him a face full of dirt. These are not street cars.

With that being said Tony Stewart is one of the few drivers I believe to be arrogant and reckless enough to risk gunning it for laughs without regard to the possible consequences. See post 270.

Be a tough sell to the jury.

From Kalle Oakes, sports writer for the Lewiston Sun Journal, posted on FB, “It’s the people who don’t like Tony because they might have seen him in an interview where he came across as an a-hole. I get it. If you’re in the public eye and you’re not universally popular and you don’t live a perfect life, people are going to jump all over any reason to destroy your name. It comes with the territory. Someday someone is going to die in a hockey fight or from getting hit in the head with a 98 mph fastball and we’re going to have this same silly discussion. It’s a part of the game gone horribly, horribly wrong. And if you’re not really immersed in the game, it is hard to understand.”

Sympathy to Ward’s family!
++++++++
Having grown up with Bobby Johns, knowing Red Farmer, Fireball Roberts and Jim Rathmann and having done some minor racing myself, —it happens.
Fireball died because he tried to avoid crashing into two other cars that collided in front of him, __it happens.
No one involved in this sport does it to die but some do. Some peoples’ sport is fishing and sometimes in this sport people some die, __it happens!
Everyone does what they want and sometimes die, __It happens!
+++
My opinion(which is worth zero) is the video frame where some Freepers see Tony swerving is actually one frame that shows the car deflecting after contacting Ward.
As far as someone hearing Tony’s engine revving, HA!
+++
My opinion(which is worth zero); as is all others on this thread.

When we get additional video or pics from higher in the stands, they'll be better able to calc distances and create a time line. Not sure how much techy stuff is in these cars...like a black box. Also, I believe Tony had his own video.

It's wait and see...very sad...and a young man is dead...and it goes back to Tony tapping Kevin's car.

I know nothing about racing and have only been to one race in my life. After watching the video several times, it sounds to me like the engine that revs does so immediately after the 45 car avoids the guy stomping around on the track. It also sounds like it’s closer to the cameraman than Stewart’s 14 car. But I don’t know how anyone can base a decision on that video. It looks to me like the impact causes the back of the car to swing inside, and I don’t see how the driver can see anything out of the right side of that car with that big panel there... Especially in the dark. The guy in the 13 car just let his temper go to stupid.

I think all racing should have spotters. I’m a spotter for my DH’s race team. In the class of cars we run - it’s mandatory.

If a division doesn’t allow spotters (which I think is dangerous), the drivers should be mandated to have gear to listen to the track officials for crash cautions, debris - fluid on the track and to get the lineup correct after cautions...instead of having track officials themselves walking onto the track to try to get a restart lineup correct during a caution.
