It was a fun time at the lake -- until the otter arrived. After spending about an hour swimming with friends in Bone Lake near Luck, Wis., on Saturday, Rory Kliewer began to climb a ladder onto a dock when she suddenly felt something bite her backside and thigh. "I thought it was a northern pike," the 12-year-old Minneapolis girl said Wednesday. "I thought a fish was after me." As she threw the creature off of her, she realized that the animal was an otter -- later estimated at 3 1/2 feet long and about 40 pounds. "It was a big, nasty one," said Rory, who had been staying at a friend's family cabin over the weekend. The otter then bit Rory's head and pulled itself onto her, scratching her face.

With all the muskrats on the lake here where I live, I’ve thought about taking it up with the lake association to trap them for a few hundred dollars per year plus selling the hides.
She was try’n to weasel in on his food.
Brilliant observation. This, no doubt, means this poor otter was the victim of global warming, um, er.... climate change.....
But they are so cuuuuuuuute...
The airbreathers will have to fend off aquatic gilled things soon.
Mark my words!
Soon, even the mighty otter will be in danger of something finned gunning for it!
“The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered.” (Genesis 9:2)
Something has gone terribly wrong. Could it be Rev. 6:8? Just asking.
So, maybe this otter in MN was only getting back at past atrocities.
If bitten on you bippy, be sure to turn the otter cheek.
That’s a gutsy post... but come to think of it....true.
This girl would have been safe if it weren't for big oil!
In the words of Steve Martin, “What in the HEEEEELLLLL was that?”
Yes, we have lions, but we have no bananas.
We have had 5 lion issues in 12 years, and the state of California acts like they are in short supply. The people who want to eliminate the position of trapper from the county payroll claim he kills 70 lions a year in the county (There have been 70 lions killed by permit state wide in 5 or 10 years). Now if they are in short supply, how can the trapper kill 70 a year? And if he is killing that many, we are likely safer in the lion enclosure at SF Zoo than roaming the hill sides.
I guarantee this state could sell lioin tags for $5k a pop.
And the otter in WI had been in contact with the Nippon otters how? I’m looking to upgrade my comm system. Theirs must be a doozy. Must run on solar or thermal....fusion maybe eeeevunn. ;oD
My guess is that the attacker was a mother protecting its young, who were probably hiding under the dock. Otters are normally shy of people and especially dislike dogs, but a mother otter will act aggressively if she regards people or dogs as a threat to her young.
