In a touching interview with Jeremy Schaap of ESPN, Pete Rose spoke of the reasons why he gambled on baseball, acknowledging he made a terrible mistake when he gambled and also erred in signing away his future when he was suspended. Prompted by Schaap, he concluded with a plea to Bud Selig to let him back in the game for which he has such a passion.

Great baseball player, not so much in the human being department.
Ask Roger Clemens how forgiving they are. Congress can be the worst.
Is there a hall of shame?
He blamed the stress of dealing with the Rose problem for Giamatti's heart attack.
(He did add Giamatti smoked like a chimney...)
Only for those who repent and ask forgiveness, Pete
You’ve been forgiven, Pete. You’re not in jail, are you?
Did he commit a crime?
That was my first thought as well.
There is no question that Pete Rose is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, but his actions were a disgrace.
It is forgiving but not for stupidity.
Lifetime means lifetime.
Elect him the year after he dies.
I know it sounds cruel, but I have been in major league locker rooms. Its not like anyone can say they did not know gambling is a big no no.
I would love to see Shoeless Joe Jackson reinstated as well.
So did I. Right in Cincy. I can still see the Weidermeier sign outside of Crosley Field.
I grew up with Pete Rose, Vada Pinson, Tony Perez, Lee May and Johnny Bench.
My feelings echo yours. Pete was great but he is infamous.
Pete Rose: 'I've Been Led to Believe That America Is a Forgiving Country'I'd give him extra time just for that.
Agreed (see post 11), but Shoeless Joe should get in before Pete.
I grew up in Southern California and was a fan of the Blue Crew when the Big Red Machine was their arch-rival.
Giamatti granted Rose one concession: Rose could apply for reinstatement once a year for as long as he lived after ten years. Rose has subsequently applied for reinstatement four times; all four reinstatement requests have been rejected. After years of denial, Rose admitted that "everything" the Dowd Report contained was the complete, unadulterated truth.
Vincent and Giamatti are bureaucrats and I do not think they ever played the game.
While Rose bet on the game he also was the best hitter and hustle man in the game.
Long time has gone by, let him in for goodness sakes.

Just that ONE statement showed the guy’s still manipulative .....
“So did I and watched him play when I was a little kid. Even as a young boy I had no use for his hustle. I knew what a brown nos-er was even then, lol. Charlie Hustler is more appropriate.”
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Get a clue ...
Forgive? Yes. Hall of Fame? Hell, no.
