lonely, less fearful, more extrovert and less preoccupied than non owners Maybe preoccupied, fearful, introverted loners don't get pets.
Have they done any double blind tests where they randomly give people real pets or placebo pets and check to see which has effects on people? :-)

My last three dogs were German Shepherds. My next dog will NOT be a GSD because I’m tired of my dog being smarter than me.

The only time I would not own a pet is if I thought that I wouldn’t outlive it.
I wouldn’t want to die and my pet not be provided for and have nobody check up on it.

We’ve had some very wonderful dogs over the years. The kids grew up with a black lab as their babysitter.
We have nine right now (live on a farm), and each one brings a different personality to the party. They range from a little, comical Manchester Terrier to a Blue Heeler to a Yellow Lab mix. They are all great, and they bring a laugh to our days, every day.

I have five Rottweilers. They are the reason I come home at night. When I come in the door they are all excited to see me. They are my true family. If they were taken from me I would die.

I worry about that exact thing. I’m in my mid sixties and my dogs probably have at least 6 more years left. I hope I make it seven more.
