I have Windows 8.0 which I tried out on my laptop (since switched back to Windows 7). Windows 8.1 came out and you download it BUT cannot save it as a separate file. It installs the upgrade. Something like 3.6gb to download. Who wants to download again especially if you have multiple computers?
If you download the ISO of 8.1 and try to install it, Microsoft will not accept your windows 8.0 license. They want another $100 to $200!!

At least Windows 9 is looking promising so far.... We will see.
Microsoft has saved me a lot of money in the last few years by not selling anything of value.
I’m using 10.4 and really need to update. But I don’t know what to do. I really only save photos, but i have photoshop and don’t want to lose that either
That's real old. Some older Macs can't upgrade from Tiger to Mavericks, because the hardware is too old. I'm in that position with a couple machines in the family. Check the specs of what you have.
Having said that, get a spare external portable hard drive and clone your internal hard drive. They're real cheap these days. If you really want to do your machine justice, spend a little more and get a larger solid-state or hybrid hard drive. Your machine will run many times faster and have more storage space. Clone your internal to the new one with copying software (easily available). Then swap the new one in place of the old hard drive, placing the old drive in the portable enclosure.
Now you can try installing the new OS X and see if it works out for you, and your critical apps still function. If not, you can boot off the external portable (look up the commands to do this) and access your old Photoshop and photos. Remember to differentiate between the hard drives when it comes to accessing email, etc. What I do is turn off all other apps on the old drive except the one I need to access with the older OS X. That way, if you boot off the old drive externally you're not mixing up your data between that and the newer drive.

I just ran into a GLITCH with iOS 8 and FREEREPUBLIC! My Safari on FR will not link to articles on FR, or to outside ararticles on the homepage. Sidebar navigation doesn’t seem to work either.
Has anyone else who has upgradedto iOS 8 run into any problems?
Another glitch I run into is that the keyboard disappears using atomic browser to enter text. Which is what I’m using right now to post this which is somewhat awkward so I’m having to dictate this.
I recommend not upgrading until Apple solves these glitches.
Ok, on restart, the keyboard has reappeard in Atomic browser. . . For now. Off to check Safari functionality. . .
Ok, tested system after cold restart. . . Safari is now behaving with FreeRepublic. So, after upgrading, and going through the activation steps, do a full cold restart, don’t just start using your iOS device. I think you’ll then be ok.

Please forgive me, for I am now officially old, and require a daily nap.
While half-into-nap mode, (or half out of it, can’t remember which), had Rush Limbaugh on the radio today as background noise.
He was saying something about problems with an upgrade, syncing, iCloud, and why it was a good idea to wait.
Not that I pay much attention to “RL” when he yammers on- about stuff Apple, but decided to wait until I heard from “swordmaker on FR” before messing with what isn’t broken at the moment.
My iPhone, iPad, and iMac all are working well together presently, so I will happily wait to install this latest upgrade until you brave testers out there give me the all-clear.
One thing I love about Apple is that they really try hard to keep it as simple as possible for those if us who have no aspirations of glory in any of the “nerd-weenie” award categories. We need to keep our tiny/small businesses profitable without needing to hassle with “IT” expenditures and downtimes.
Anyone else excited about Yosemite? I can’t wait to see what they have come up with next to make my computing life easier!
Everything in iOS seem kopacetic after the restart. So far, I’m not finding any problems with the upgrade with OS X 9.5.
No problems here.
Thanks for the ping. I think I’ll wait a while to do the upgrade ;)
That’s weird. I have OS X 10.10 Yosemite installed on all my boxes. For about a month now. It must be a beta...
Upgraded with Maverick. So far no problems.

You can get the beta of Yosemite. I have been running it on my macbooks and iMac for about a month. Absolutely no problems at all.
