The incident was caught on “FILM”? Really?

That is so annoying.

Well, it’s a generational thing. When I was a young coach I watched the football “film.” Now that I’m an old coach I still watch the football “film” even though it’s technically all digital now.

At the games I still automatically yell “offsides” when the offense moves early, because it used to be “offsides, offense” or “offsides, defense” not “illegal motion.”

This is an institutional problem, not an individual problem.

Thank goodness the officer saved her from possibly injury to herself by beating her to death. (What a piece of crap. This guy should be in jail.)

Pox, What does that matter in the context of the “peace” officer beating this woman? I could care less what she does with her money.

Lawyer about 33% if this did not go to court. No IRS taxes as this was settlement for injury. Still most who get windfall like this spend it all within 5 years.

How much of it came out of the officer’s pending pension?

it take individuals to make up an institution. It obvious that either psych evaluations were not done or there is no process of ongoing psych evaluations. Policing is a high stress job, one of the reasons why alcoholism, domestic violence and suicides are so high among peace officers.

Well you would be wrong. The $1.5 million is being set up as a Trust for the lady. That way nobody can take advantage of her.

“but how is showering a trainload of tax-payer money on the victim justice?”

Its not about the victim its about punishing a police dept for wrongful behavior so they will stop doing it. Hitting these agencies in the pocketbook is the only way to effect change. They don’t just suddenly feel remorse.

Outrage over this cop beating this woman was expressed in multiple threads back when it was first posted, so I didn’t see any reason to keep beating a dead horse.

I simply wondered how long it will take the victim to be back out on the streets even after receiving a large settlement that could possibly help her turn her life around, but probably won’t in the long run.

The cop got what he deserved, fired, but probably should see jail time IMO.

I don’t disagree. But institutions create culture, practices, policies, and hire those that fit in. Until Law Enforcement changes who they are how they train and expectations then we will get bad reaults. Training practices and outcomes are fairly uniform accross the country. We have money grubbing violent law enforcement eveeywhere. See what I am saying?
