Pre neanderthal bones 200,000 years old have been discovered on a building site, and could shed light on every day behaviour of our extinct relatives

It is thought that these pre neanderthal bones could shed light on the everyday behaviour of our closest extinct relative.

They were discovered in Northern France by chance on a building site and it is though the arm bones could be as much as 200,000 years old.

It is a rare find, only 12 other sites in Europe have discovered such significant archeological remains. The bones are of particular scientific interest because they hint at the behaviour of our neanderthal ancestors.

The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve

in local libraries
"Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

It said Arm Bones, not Army Bones.

Those bones are arranged to show a tank. Why?

Nonsense, pure nonsense. Just the usual empty need to fill up a page with content. Pure crap.

Slight exaggeration — your post only took a couple of lines, not a whole page.

Re: “Pre-Neanderthal”

I had the same question.

According to Wiki:

“Scientists do not agree when Neanderthals can first be recognised in the fossil record, with dates ranging 200,000 and 300,000 years BP.”

So, I think it was just a poorly written sentence, and that 200,000 years ago is the point where a lot of scientists start to get really skeptical about the evidence.

In this case, the evidence appears to be really solid.

BTW, I don’t know where you got that image, but it is one of the most impressive pieces of art I have seen in a long time.

Neanderthals became extinct what some 50,000 years ago?
That is only about 2000 generations.

And since Neanderthals are known to have mixed with “modern humans”, many people still carry their genes. Actually observing behavior of some people, it is quite obvious hahaha.

Terming Neanderthals “extinct” may be as erroneous as saying that certain native American tribes are extinct. In that instance, there was no extinction, they merged into a new population via interbreeding and ceased being distinct due to genetic swamping. That’s a far cry from extinct, which carries connotation of being killed off or dying out rather than being bred into a hybrid.

The assumption that they are our ‘ancestors’ may be incorrect to begin with.

If there were world-wide floods that wiped out most life on Earth, then it isn’t likely that we are ancestors of the non-survivors.

Uh, no. Our ancestors were among the survivors.

Not even possible unless time travel was involved. Maybe you mean descendants?

The non-surviving descendants had unsuccessful pre-Neanderthals as ancestors?

Our ancestors were among the survivors.

Reminds me of the old joke punch line "Where did they bury the survivors?"

Anyway, my point was that these alleged 'pre-Neanderthals' might be part of the non-survivors, ergo not our ancestors.
