This is because of a drought last year, isn’t it?

What is driving the price upwards?

The lack of value of the American dollar.

A lot of food prices have stabilized or come down....and oil has come down...so the American dollar answer isn’t the whole story.

A lot of food prices have stabilized or come down....

Not where I shop. Food prices didn't go crazy where I live (Atlanta GA) but all of a sudden -- as in, this week -- things popped. Butter, for example: Normally 2.50 a lb, just nailed 5.00 a lb.

A buddy of mine hauled some cattle to market yesterday. He is expecting $2.30 + on the hoof. Buck 99 hamburger will be nothing but a pleasant memory to tell the grandkids about.

It must be deflation that’s causing beef prices to rise, kind of the same way global warming is causing record sea ice

Must be the 83%, because the 93% I buy is at $5.00 a lb. At the Navy Commissary.

Milk is nearly $4 at the Navy Commissary.

Butter is $4 a lb.

Bread over $2 if you buy name brand. Which I don’t I buy Kroger’s as it is the lowest sodium on the shelf.

And I will bet you a dime that our T-Day turkey will be costly too. Even with Kroger’s $10 deal.

I’m waiting until Kroger’s put gift cards at 4 times the points so I can get a $1 off a gal of gas up to 35 gals. That will be the extent of my CHRISTmas shopping. I am to old, and sick to shop for various age 7 grands and 5 great grands, Let the parents do it. Even my husband’s will be from Amazon.

gas right now in Millington, TN is $2.79 a gal.

I always buy Ground Sirloin. It just tastes better to me. $6.98 a pound.

Really, it seems like hamburger is becoming a luxury. And I am leaning toward more meatless meals and pasta.

Ah Crap! Look what happened when the price of copper went up. Plumbing in houses being stolen. Looks like cattle rustling going to be in vogue again.

Seeing some of the same in Nebraska. And ground beef is very high, around $5/lb, I think. But we bought a whole roasting chicken, about 6 lbs IIRC, for $.99/lb last week. It’s what’s for dinner.

Butter frequently had been under $3/lb for quite a long time, now goes on sale for $3.88/lb.

Seemingly I am paying MUCH more attention to what is on sale, stocking up more on sale items that we will always use, just trying to outsmart the system as much as possible.
