35+ years handling firearms. No AD. I attribute that to the stern teaching of my parents re: firearms safety. I never break protocol. My son once asked me why I checked a pistol a gun shop rep checked and handed me. I told him truthfully no, I didn’t think the guy had made a mistake, didn’t think the pistol had magically loaded on an empty counter. I said I’m not worried about the safety of this weapon, I’m training myself to ensure the safety of the next weapon. That’s why we do it, the four safety rules have to be second nature.
