This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

I saw some of them at my favorite grocery story (they have a wonderful array of flowers and plants for sale), and a few of them were starting to bloom.

And .. maybe they’ll make a really different gift for my neighbors’ porches; they all love flowers.

Thanks so much for the info .. when I shop next week I’ll be sure and check them out.

Very similar. Granny used propane stove for cooking and wood stove for winter heat. Ditto the Saturday night ritual.

During the week it was shower of old fashioned bath with basin. Starting with face and working down - the feet were last. Granny could not abide dirty feet in between her clean sheets. LOL

Do you use tomato juice bath to clear off the stink? LOL

I used to do the tomato juice shower but I have been careless 3 times this week. I’m sure glad Lady Bender is a forgiving soul...

Thanks for the prayers. I don’t get too excited about a few lil ole tootaches. My mom didn’t really believe in dentists, so I lost some permanent teeth when I was a kid.

The first thing I did after I got married was to go the dentist and ask him to fix my teeth for a payment of 5 or 10 bucks a month, because that was all I could afford.

Luckily he fixed all my teeth, and put the bridge on so that I would have something to chew with. He told me that the teeth I had left were in good shape, but I would be lucky to keep them till age 45.

My brother had false teeth by the time he was 16, my sister at age 23, my mom at age 35 and dad at age 40. Dad did not have a single cavity, but developed some sort of condition that destroyed the roots.

I am over twenty years beyond where they predicted I’d still have teeth. I have lost a few and had a few root canals, but still doing pretty well with my own teeth. I do go in 3 or 4 times per year for cleaning and checkups.

They said I was due for an xray at the next cleaning, but I’ll go in before then if I have too. I have been using some hydrogen peroxide dental treatment, and little gargling with salt or baking soda water. Eating some softer foods to give everything a chance to get back to normal.

Any way I just feel lucky to still have a lot of my own teeth. LOL

Me too. I wouldn’t have had any teeth to chew with, if they hadn’t lasted. I have all my bottom teeth except the two that are located under the bridge, which is held in place by the capped teeth.

My dentist told me that the bottom teeth are the hardest to get dentures to fit and be comfortable. One upside: I never had to have my wisdom teeth taken out. They just moved right in and replaced some of the missing jaw teeth.

It was my idea, and fortunately Handy Hubby set it up. We both would like to have an old time cistern, but that’s pricy - the swimming pool only cost a couple of hundred bucks.

I think the gums are just a little inflamed. Mouth gets kinda dry at night, and also I sometimes grind my teeth.

Home remedies first, and dentist if it doesn’t work. Been through it before, can usually make headway on my own.

LOL. I’ll pass on a tip from my Paramedic Dad. Tell Lady Bender that vicks vapo rub is her friend. Just a little on the tip of the nose or chest cuts the smell of many unpleasant things.

Thanks.

Fai Mao:" Bananas are also a lot of work. You have to watch out for aphids that carry a virus that stunts them and keeps them from bearing and bugs like grasshoppers love the leaves."

Consider making a metal collar with some overlap as the tree grows.
Afix some textile (ie: cotton, cloth)on the underside and keep it damp with aphid insecticide.
The metal collar will present a physical impediment, and as they climb around the collar, they will be met with insecticide (ie: neem oil, etc.)
and trees should not be bothered by aphids , anymore.
Physical placement of the metal collars should be above the level that you would normally see them.
Let's see if you can truely become : "Genius at Large" !! LOL !!

Fai Mao:" The local root then sent up some branches because there are two different varieties of mangoes on the tree that ripen at different times of the year."

Take cuttings of the native root, and learn how to graft.
You could become the great mango Papa of the region.

In regards to grapes, yes , the seeds need to chill/ freeze for 2-3 months for proper seed germanation.
I dont recall whether the seed husk needs scarification/incision or not.
Around here, most grapes are trained on the "Three Cane Kniffen" system to provide vitality , and reconstruction if damaged by mice or frost.(Not your worry...LOL !)

You have been Blessed with a wonderful companion ,.. but stop pushing your luck !
I thought that prior to dispatching a skunk, even in a "Have-a-Heart" trap , you were supposed to cover the critter with a cloth or blanket.
I recall a recipie for anti-skunk stink, but I forgot the ratio of water , hydrogen peroxide , and a capfull (or two) of Dawn Lemon dishwater liquid.
The Dawn cuts through the scent with the hydrogen peroxide, but leaves you with a delightful bouquet.
Even without the Lemon scent dawn , you have been Blessed with an understanding companion, but please stay 4 feet away from me ... ( lol ! )

Just Dam… You’re too late because I drank the hydrogen peroxide and bathed in the Dawn dish soap. The sleeping skunk is 42 feet from the house and the neighbors across the gulch called Air Qualify to report me...

Fai Mao:" We only have about 3 to 5 inches of top soil and then I hit a layer coral/limestone that is about 1 foot deep.
I can dig a hole through it for the trees we planted but do raised beds for the vegetables."

Is there a possibility of fabricating a compost heap to increase the amonunt of topsoil ?
Raised beds are a wonderful idea, especailly where there is little topsoil - wishing you success !
Absent a drill , I imagine that a bottle or two of vinegar would cut through the limestone/coral.
What's underneath the limestone/ coral ?
How far are you from saltwater ?

Don't let the bubbles in the peroxide go to your head, or you will become "bubbleicious "
Next time you go for wild bird feed, consider getting the balck seed, rather then the grey-stripe as the oil content is higher.
The wild birds don't care what you smell like, providing the feed has some suet (fat content) with it.
I'm not sure that they can smell thru the beak !
