Great Dane delivers huge litter of 19 puppies

YORK HAVEN, Pa., - Great Danes normally give birth to eight puppies per litter. But Snowy, a Great Dane from York Haven, Pa., recently delivered 19 puppies.

Owners Brandon and Aimie Terry told WHTM that they had no idea Snowy was expecting so many pups.

"We made an appointment to take her into the vet and they did an X-Ray and found out there were 15 little spines on the X-Ray," they said.

Hoping to clear out their home, the family is selling all but one of the three-week-old puppies on PuppyFind.com. They cost $850 each.

"It's starting to get crazy," Terry told Today. "It was okay last week, but now this week, they're starting to break loose. You try to feed them and you try to get them situated. You've got to watch where you step. You've got to watch behind your feet."

Probably a lot of inbreeding.

We love big dogs but hate the typical life span that comes with them.

We are on our 3rd large greyhound, typical 12~15 year life span, but we have known a few 16 year olds. They have worked for us.

Had a Springer Spaniel bitch we got from the pound years ago and she had just been in heat. Apparently successful because a bit later she presented us with 23 pups-2 stillborn over a 26-hour delivery. From about number 16 onward, she left it up to me to birth them as she presented them. She got room service for a week she was so tired. The vet said it was likely double inseminations during her roaming before animal control captured her. Sam-Samantha-was a great dog afterwards.

“We love big dogs but hate the typical life span that comes with them.”

That is biggest reason I never bought one of the monsters, I couldn’t bear the thought knowing my dog had only 6 or 7 years, even 12-15 is really too short. Otherwise I’d love to have an English Mastiff.

I just hate to have to bend over to pet the dog.

On the other hand, having a dog that can sit on the floor, and comfortable eat from a plate on the dining table has its drawbacks as well.

I had an English Mastiff that lived over 13 years and was pretty spry until her last day, she died in her sleep.. Sweet lap dog.

Pit Stop gets stuff off of the counter too.

Last night when I got home he had a hot sauce packet in his mouth.

The funniest thing is on the rare occasion the bedroom door is left open he gets one of my shoes and sleeps with it under my desk. Never chews it just sleeps with it.

Percy is actually good about not taking from the counters or tables.

His weakness is empty toilet paper rolls. Apparently they are most addictive form of crack to mentally deficient greyhounds.

I love that guy to death. He knows it is wrong; he will hide after he has torn one up, or refuse to go into the room where he left the evidence. It might be 8 hours later before we find it, but he remembers, and knows he is trouble.

I’ve finally gotten half soft-hearted about it. I know he is addicted. I’ve taken more to scolding the kids for not properly throwing them away or leaving the bathroom door open.

I just consider ourselves fortunate that he hasn’t figured out how to unroll them himself.

Had a cat once who loved to do that.

It is REALLY hard to roll it back up but we were so broke in those days that is what we did, or tried to do.

That's just because you only buy the good toilet paper and not the cheap stuff.

Right!

I had to block that boy on Facebook as he is a radical liberal lunatic. Seemed like all he did was compare me to the terrible men on Duck Dynasty.

I saw that as rather complimentary.

I was just concerned because it said something about how the owners were anxious to relieve the stress on their house by reducing the number of puppies.
