12-year old hunter shoots mountain lion at 5 yards

Alyssa Caldwell and her father, Joshua, were heading to what they hoped would be a great spot for Alyssa to take a nice bull elk on the edge of a meadow in New Mexico's Unit 52, just south of the Colorado border.

After hunting a makeshift aspen blind over a waterhole, dad and daughter decided to stalk to a meadow and see if any elk had come to feed lower on the mountain. However, after about 200 yards, Joshua realized he had forgotten the shooting sticks in the blind.

"I decided to head back up to grab them and told Alyssa to sit tight," he said. "About 30 to 45 seconds after I started walking, I heard a shot."

He thought she had killed a big elk -- not exactly.

Frickin’ awesome quick thinking by the young lady. She doesn’t shoot like a girl. She shoots like a woman.

Lib Response: But, but...but, that’s murder, the animal posed no threat, she should have waited until the cat was actually on her.

Ha! It’s from a newspaper. For whatever reason, the newspaper is printed in color, but most of the pictures related to stories are B&W. Of course almost all the advertisements are in color.

Many newspaper photos are still in black & white.

It was that evil “Stand Your Ground” legislation that incited her to this violence.

She said she “raised her rifle when the animal crouched down” ... so that means she had a round in the chamber the whole time - shouldn’t she be taught more about firearm safety? /s

WARNING!
The link, issuu, led to the issuu app and took over my iPhone. I had to close every page, reopen Safari and quickly close the link.
The story is not worth the effort.

I was a long way from home, maybe 10 miles out in the Lava Beds National Monument area, but probably on Forest Service land. I was on an older mare my dad had bought from a dealer who said he got it from the Chiloquin Indian Reservation. This was near the west border of Modoc County and Siskiyou county, California.

We were on some sort of a trail and came to a fork in the trail with an unusually large sagebrush at the fork. Suddenly the mare planted all four feet and snorted. I sensed she wanted to run home, so I gathered her up, and I am bareback!!! and held on tight. I could see nothing, smell nothing, no tracks, anything. Then she began to shake in freight. It was all I could do to hold her. She would go no farther.

I made her walk back to the house and it was the last mile that she began to stop shaking.

Old timers told me it was a cat marking post and that she had smelled it. I thought it I turned around to see what was behind me, I would lose my balance and if she took off I was a gonner.

They have since killed big cats in that area as well as black bears.

Thanks for posting that. Now I am confused. The article first says they were hunting in New Mexico, then it says they had to surrender the cat due to Colorado cat regs. Huh?

Yes, but notice that there is no DATE for the ‘newspaper clipping’.

I did a Google search and the only place this story shows up is Free Republic, and one other website the states they got it from Free Republic.(gotnewswire.com)

It doesn’t show up on Google for ISSUU.com because it’s a scanned newspaper clip.

I suspect this ISSUU.com is a BS website, that they are just scanning old newspaper clippings and presenting them as NEW, and that their website is full of viruses.

For whatever reason, the newspaper is printed in color, but most of the pictures related to stories are B&W. Of course almost all the advertisements are in color.

The reason is because they are scanning old newspaper clippings and presenting them as if they are recent incidents. At least it gives every appearance of being that way. Even the girl's hairstyle is out of date.

From the looks of LONE STAR OUTDOOR NEWS, they are just a publication that rehashes the output from hunting trade magazines.
