The Colt.25 1908 Pocket Pistol (with CWP) used as a Doctor’s gun, eye’s, ears, arm pit, throat.
Using Mag Safe Pre-Fragmented Bullets at 1750 fps & 150 ft lbs. in left hand and a Lightning OTF Automatic Knife in right hand.
Both are light, legal and used very effectively in S.C.
Sometime’s you just don’t have to kill, sometime’s the bad guy just needs a good excuse to stop and leave well enough alone to thank God later.
My favorites are the unregistered ones that nobody publicly writes of. All part of a well thought out SS&S plan.
It depends on the weather, clothing, etc., but it’s usually my LCR (.38+P) with Kel Tec P3AT (.380 ACP) back up, or Glock 26 (9mm) with the P3AT back up.
XDS in .45 in an IWB Alien Gear Holster.
Taurus 850 CIA in .357 .. in a pocket or leather OWB holster.
I carry everywhere legal ... always concealed unless on my property. Then I carry a SW 629 in .44 mag with a chest holster. Big critters here in Montana.
I carry a Glock 29 10 mm automatic mostly. The 10 mm automatic laughs at the whole 9mm vs .45 acp argument.
This 75 year old man carries a LCP in a Sneaky Pete holster. Looks like an IPhone case. I’ve had a lot combat practice with it so don’t let old age fool you.
Ruger SP101 2.25” .357
Colt ‘Officers’ Model .45ACP in Askins Avenger or
Taurus 450T .45 Colt in Bianchi 4750 Ranger Triad ankle holster
The 450T replaced a S&W 625-3 .45ACP that weighed 2x.
Charter Arms Bulldog 44 Special loaded with Glaser Safety Slugs. Small, never failed me in 30 years.
For large animals like Brown, I would prefer to have a 44 mag, 45 long colt, or 10 mm auto, but they can be difficult to carry concealed, I suppose. For smaller varmints, the 40 SW and 9 mm with plus P loads will do the job. You have to know what you are hunting, and work up the loads for the power and performance you need. This requires a good selection of bullets, brass, powders, primers, and firearms that can handle a little more zip than the underloaded box store ammo, when you can get it.
Most animals will turn and run, no matter what you shoot them with. Others will stand there stunned until they drop, or try to walk off. But there are always those nasty ones that will get violent and charge. It is the latter example that requires the shooter to have nerves of steel, and a steady hand. Also a hand cannon for a back up is handy. Regardless of the caliber you choose. Make sure your loads are all they can be. Have fun shooting.
Sig P290rs. I am about to go jogging with it.
To start with, if you want a wide range of larger calibers in a small gun, their Bond Arms Texas Defender Derringer fits the bill. If you want a whole lot of bang in a small gun, I would go for a Bond Arms Cowboy Defender Derringer, that fires two .410 shot shells.

Conversely, though many people get upset about it, I prefer a .22 pistol for ordinary public use, for several reasons. The first is that I will likely *not* be able to choose the place, the time of day, or the reason to need it. Nor will I be able to choose the distance to target at which it is used. And, if someone is firing back, I would prefer they exhaust their bullets before I do.
And for either weapon, I also carry my complementary karambit.
A .38 special snubnose, a revolver for all seasons, loaded with either full wadcutter bullets, (it worked for big city cops in the ‘50’s), or non-hollowpoint semiwadcutter bullets.
Speed Strips, ala Michael deBethencourt, i.e., a ‘5-shot strip’ loaded 2 space 2.
Here is the penetration test for the nonhollowpoint semiwadcutter .38 special bullet:

‘Jus’ sayin’ ya’s kno’?’
Loadout is at least one gun and two blades. Carry varies with one or two of the following:
SIG Sauer P228

Ambidextrous here, AIWB carry and/or side carry. One or two extra mags.
Small pouch in car with flashlight, extra mags/happy sticks, utility tool, extra blade, trauma kit, whistle, burner phone...

Plane travel to any state: Taurus snubbie and speedloaders since I’ve had luggage lost and don’t want an expensive piece gone.
Springfield XD45C. .45 ACP single action polymer pistol.
