Army will be looking to snap a 12-game losing streak to Navy when the two service academies meet for the 115th time Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
CBS will broadcast the game at 2 p.m. Central, with live streaming available at CBSSports.com. The Black Knights are 4-7 this season, while the Midshipmen are 6-5.
Here are five things you might not know about the Army-Navy rivalry:
1. Few major-college rivalries are older
Among rivalries between FBS schools, only three are older than Army vs. Navy, which was first played on Nov. 29, 1890. Only North Carolina-Wake Forest (Oct. 18, 1888), Miami (Ohio) vs. Cincinnati (Dec. 8, 1888) and Minnesota-Wisconsin (Nov. 15, 1890) were first played before Army-Navy.
The Army-Navy series halted from 1894-98 and in 1917 and 1918, when a combination of World War I and a nationwide flu pandemic put a halt to the series. A dispute over eligibility policies resulted in the cancellation of the 1928 and 1929 games. The series resumed in 1930 and has been played every year since.

As an Army vet, I always go with the Black Knights, but this year Navy has a helmet designed around the Gadsden flag , a true predicament for me.
But I'm still going with the upset special:
Ping.
Isn’t it the Navy Jack?
One article said it was originally on the Union Jack, but the Navy is going to have “Don’t Tread on Me” on the back of their helmets.
Army's Free Safety....
Egads, no “Assault” weapons allowed on this thread.....</libsmind>
Go Army beat Navy!
12 in a row seems lopsided.
Average MOV is in the 20s.
What’s the back story?
On the surface, it seems like they would compete on pretty even terms for players and coaches?
FWIW Sagarin ratings (which I like) says +18 for Navy this year.
I hope the current President don’t show up
With this President who know
I know, I’ve lost lotsa FReeper bucks over the years here with Navy guys, and the sad thing is that they GLOAT :-)
Go Navy.
One thing Army doesn’t know.
How to beat Navy.
Bummer.
A brief bit of internet research may have found one underlying reason.
Navy coach salary $1,700,000
Army coach salary $700,000
Not sure how the budgets of the academies work.
Yes, that quote is on both the Gadsden as well as the first Navy Jack. Like you, I have ties to both (and own both flags too). Not quite like being a Sox fan at Yankee stadium, but similar. Last game I saw a young one wearing a shirt proclaiming “Army football, making the Navy look good since 1890”. Go Knights!
The Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry goes back 150 years. They just played the 150th consecutive year at Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago.
While the Army is busy fighting wars, the Navy has built a fine amateur football program to rival the quasi-military Air Force.
Army needs to relax the physical fitness specs. I bet you if they allow the kids to have unlimited neck girth it would make a difference.
Dumb question...are their reqs different from Navy?
