Exactly. They indeed are. They aren’t content to have their ideas and policies judged on their merits by people exercising freewill. If they wanted to try out single payer like they did in Vermont and let it rise or fall on its merits then I’d not care unless I lived in Vermont. The problem is they don’t stop at Vermont and even when it fails in Vermont they decide that the reason it didn’t work was because everyone wasn’t forced into the single payer plan. That is where I depart from them and would fight to the death against them.

But the ones I enjoy meeting personally are the ones who pity us rather than hate us.
Close to a decade of street corner activism introduced me to each type.
The advantage to being a conservative is that we can't HELP but be exposed to the Monolithic Liberal MSM's enormous web of deceipt about anything and everything that matters in our world, and so we HAVE heard all their lies & spin already. But being conservative means we don't take ANYthing they say as gospel truth, instead verifying/debunking it from non-MSM sources.
So we are fully aware of BOTH sides of the story. But the foot-soldiers in The Army Of Useful Idiots are only exposed to PC-Spin, not realizing there IS another side, and so they either hate us if they believe we *know* the truth (yet malevolently choose The Dark Side anyway), or else pity us as uneducated poor souls who just don't know any better.
Most of the leftists on opposite corners believed we were vile "Haters". Some actually told me our presence "scared" them.
Why, our rampant jingoism alone (real American flags! and not a single UN flag!), to say nothing of our blatant endorsements of sadistic violence (an Army flag! Marine Corps flag! Navy & Airforce & POW-MIA flags! Lions&Tigers&Bears&OhMy!) was surely intimidating.
But then there were those who saw us as objects of pity, because we were just uneducated yahoos who could be convinced to join their side if we only just knew the same True Facts that their side did!
So on occasion, one would venture over to our side (unwritten rule for both sides: do NOT take your sign along), to re-educate us all into the modern world.
They really looked forward to this golden opportunity. Why, no doubt when we on the Dark Side shed our ignorance thanks to their kind intervention, we'd joyfully hop skip & jump over to their side to join them as one big happy family.
What they didn't realize was this: Not only were they wrong in assuming that we'd never heard their "facts" & factoids & "logic," but it turned out we ALSO knew the counter-arguments and the REAL facts, which vaporized their own claims into pathetic little piles of dust. Jaws started dropping as they realized we'd ALREADY HEARD their arguments, and then dropped all the way to the ground as they heard the debunking of each. Why, they had no idea such debunkings even existed.
One sub-class of those fancying themselves Missionaries To The Dark Side: The Truthers. One came with a pile of books (others with a VHS or DVD) that supposedly "proved" the 9/11 attack was a GWB-WhiteHouse plot. But I'd heard every one of their arguments already. And I knew the answer to each one. Heck, I'd even gone to a few Truther sites to find any answers they might have to the debunkings of them.
I remember one argument ended like this:
Me: "So if there were NOT any Mid-Eastern hijackers on the planes, what about the reports of phone calls made from the planes regarding 'swarthy' hijackers with M-E accents?"
Truther: "Oh, those people were paid off to lie! The conspirators had millions of $$ for that."
Me: "!!! So you're telling me that ALL of those dozens of family members who shared last words with their loved ones who were about to be incinerated on the 4 doomed planes, were willing to take cash payoffs to cover up the truth about how their loved ones died??!?"
Truther: "Uh .... uh ... uh ...." [Turned and left].
Maybe my attempt at a "withering" look really did work?
I think that liberals hate conservatives the same way. We remind them of what is good and right and realistic in the world and they don't want to hear that. They want to create an impossible utopia.
I say "ALSO" because I'd long ago heard the song was a major factor in the birth of International Jihad.
Can the heirs of the songwriter claim (negative) royalties?
