This summer I was involved with an event hosted by Travis Mills a quad amputee who is a motivational speaker and warrior advocate. He brings wounded warriors (amputees) and their families up to Maine for a week of vacation. I idea is that the whole family needs help to push the limits of what is possible in their new lives and to learn to love life again. The families that I met met and became very close at Walter Reed during recovery and rehab it it was a reunion of sorts. The day I was there we had them all out on the water bass fishing. They had adaptive equipment for all sorts of outdoor and on the water activities and was inclusive of wives and kids....respite for the whole family. Anyway this is a fledgling foundation and I have no doubt that Travis Mills has the drive and passion to make this rewarding for many of our vets and families. http://www.travismills.org/foundation/mission/
from this experience I also joined http://www.reelamericanheroes.org/ . It is an organization that matches wounded vets up with anglers willing and able to get them out on the water. It could use your help as well.

I have some friends who are seriously involved in veterans charities. They do not recommend WWP and I stopped giving to them some years ago. The top people are very highly compensated and enjoy many other perks that are written off as “charitable” expenses. They a few “show dogs”, provide them with very good services, but require them to sign non disclosure statements so that no one will every know what is really going on.

They are liberals, marketing their scam at veterans expense. Look for organizations founded by, and run by veterans and service linked organizations who return almost all of their donations to the intended beneficiaries.

WWP has a very high percentage of their donations funneled to ‘administrative and overhead expenses’ and is not a good choice for effective charity anyway. Seek alternate routes.

Helpful thread — thanks. Leftists are always capitalizing on the suffering of others.

You want to blow your stack think for a moment about Paralyzed Veterans of America. It is a charity to care for the needs of veterans who were not only wounded but have spinal cord injuries. It was founded in 1946.

All the money we have poured down rat holes over the years but buying a wheelchair for a guy who was paralyzed while serving in war? No money for that!
