HAYDEN, Idaho—Employees evacuated the Hayden Walmart on Tuesday following a shooting inside the store.
Authorities on the scene around 11:15 a.m. described the shooting as "accidental."
A woman was shopping with four kids, when one of the kids reached into her purse and accidentally discharged the weapon, according to Kootenai County Sheriff's Deputies at the scene.
The gunshot killed the 29-year-old woman. Deputies on scene said the child who accidentally fired the handgun was about 2-years-old.
Deputies said the woman and children were in the back of the store near the electronics area when it happened. Deputies said the woman was in town for holidays and is not from the area.
Video surveillance in the store, along with eye witness testimony helped deputies determine that this was an accident.
Authorities said the woman did have a concealed weapons permit.
The store is currently closed.

Expect Gun control lobby is going to have a complete field day with this tragedy. They would exploit anything.

Glock, probably. I usually stay at Condition 3, not 4, with a Glock. Only takes a quick rack to make it Condition 4.
Yes, don’t keep a round chambered, and safety on always, unless you don’t have a safety.

Perhaps there should be a third rule: If you’re not using your firearm, make sure no one else can.
Hopefully that kid will never find out just how his/her mother died.Talk about being in need of couch time!
Obvious the woman is a lot to blame certainly where toddlers are concerned. She got sloppy and careless and paid the ultimate price for it. With guns comes responsibility.
I was thinking don’t keep it in something your child could grab it from. There are ccw holsters women can wear. Plus with all the other crap in a purse you don’t want to be fishing for it when you need it.
Why not just carry a weighted cudgel.
This poor child. What a terrible accident this child will live with forever.
I think my 2 year old would shoot and kill me too. But I am not dumb enough to allow him anywhere near a loaded gun.
What a shame.
As an aside to the story, women shouldn’t carry in a purse. The top crime they will have to deal with is purse snatching. If it happens, it’ll happen so quickly they’ll be disarmed before they can respond.
Have a weapon on you in such a way you can get to it easily and an attacker can’t disarm you of it before you have a chance to retrieve it.

A 2-year old with grabby hands can happen regardless of any law. Common sense would have saved the day, you don’t leave a loaded firearm near a 2 year old.
I know it could have slid out of the holster, but...
it seems to me that the trigger was not properly covered by the holstering device.
Most likely if the kid grabbed it she wasn’t using a concealed carry purse but there are several very nice ones out there which give the gun its own separate holster compartment.
I purse carry and I am always aware of where my purse is and where my kid is but with four, so easy to get distracted. Poor woman.
And as usual, your perceptive powers rule the day. That is precisely how a Glock was intended to be carried. It was designed as an army pistol. Soldiers on guard, flying in a plane, etc,, typically carry loaded mag on an empty chamber, and rack the slide.
Glock designed it to the prevailing practice of the standard military truck driver or mortar crewman, not to Delta force.
