Sex Reassignment Surgery at 74: Medicare Win Opens Door for Transgender Seniors
NBC News ^ | 01/03/2015 | Miranda Leitsinger

Posted on 01/03/2015 11:06:05 AM PST by Rusty0604

HICAGO — Denee Mallon marveled at the view of Lake Michigan from her hospital bed in the Windy City, where she had just made history: the then 74-year-old transgender woman underwent a milestone sex reassignment surgery she'd sought for decades. "Here I am, finally, after all these years," she said. "It happened."

Her operation will be one of the first paid for by Medicare after she won a challenge in May to end the government insurance program's ban on covering such procedures for transgender individuals. Mallon's victory opened the door for other seniors to access this care and may influence whether more insurers - private and public - will cover them. LGBT advocates also hailed her case as another step forward to securing equal rights for transgender people.

The Medicare decision comes as the number of private insurance companies offering transition-related coverage has surged in recent years. Human Rights Campaign, which advocates for LGBT equality, said about 34 percent of the Fortune 500 companies today — up from 10 percent in 2009 — offer transgender-inclusive health care benefits, including surgical. Many employers have started to address coverage for transgender individuals, and most have experienced little to no premium increases as a result, HRC said in its annual Corporate Equality Index.

Five states' Medicaid programs — California, Massachusetts, Vermont, the District of Columbia and Oregon — cover transgender health services, including sex reassignment surgery, in their plans for lower-income and disabled people. Ten states have banned health insurance discrimination against transgender people (the five listed above plus Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington, and most recently, New York).

The hope, transgender advocates say, is that the Medicare decision will encourage more Medicaid programs and private insurers to offer coverage.

America the Demented.

My mother, fighting cancer, loses her home-health care. And never got the knee replacement surgery she needed for many years.

But freaks and deviants run this country nowadays, and they get their mental insanity catered to, all paid by the taxpayers. Just like the illegals. This country has become a sick, vomit-inducing farce.

I want to know, when meeting someone for the first time, is it okay to ask them what is their original sex-male or female?
I certainly do not want to help an old lady if she was once a man. S-he-it should help me!

Now this transgendered thing, will it be experiencing hot flashes?

Thank you for referencing that article Rusty0604. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Regarding Medicare sex reassignment surgery, please consider the following.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Constitutionally ignorant voters need to get themselves up to speed with the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers and then wise up to the reality that misguided activist justices have lied to everybody, imo, about the constitutionality of federal healthcare programs.

More specifically, activist justices wrongly ignored that the Supreme Court had historically clarified that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate healthcare issues.

And for those federal Democrats and RINOs who argue that if the Constitution doesn’t say that they can’t do something then they can do it, the Supreme Court has addressed that foolish idea too. PC interpretations of the Constitution's Supremacy Clause aside, Clause 2 of Section VI, the Supremes have clarified that powers not expressly delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the power to dictate intrastate healthcare policy in this case, are prohibited to the feds.

”From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.

No money for surgery that fights illness that would shorten one’s life but money for the protected “class”.

W’underful...

“when these things start dying on the table ....”

I never thought of that. Good heavens, even if they don’t die what would happen if the doc messes up? They are not male or female in a sense. Think about it.

As more doctors go into this you know it’s going to be like the abortion industry. You will have low class doctors, doing this in crappy clinics, probably same day service. Men and women butchered.

Wanna bet also these will be near or next to abortion clinics?

The article did not go into great detail about what had been done, and what was yet to be done.

Some of these in-DUH-viduals feminize themselves with ongoing hormonal disruption, cosmetics and girl clothes all their lives without ever doing the chopping. The even get boobs, so they're sort-of-like one sex above the waist, and t'other one below.

Next, I suppose, satyrs, mermaids and centaurs.

Now you'll complain about it, but nevertheless, you'll pay. And directly it will be illegal to complain.
