Portrait in flawless vectors...

Beautifully turned phrase! Original, too (yes, I googled it). :-) I really like(d) it, thx.

Wouldn’t be surprised that if you shifted one ball out of position by a single micron, or one angle by a (1/1000)th of a degree, etc., you’d have to bring in chaos theory to analyze it. But my background is in math more than physics. So I could be, and probably am, totally wrong!

No striped balls either. And practically two balls of every other color on the ROY G BIV scale. There is no mention of 8-ball at the source link at all. I just glanced at it and thought, “Oh, it’s obviously not a 9-ball rack, so it’s 8-ball.” Totally my error, thanks.

That’s me, too... Low and to the right, with lots of draw. And I’d hit those things as hard as I could, really getting my hips and shoulder into it. Always resulted in lots of action and things flying around for a long time, but nothing going off the table and few scratches. I always figured that gave me the maximum opportunity to make something on the break.

When I was twenty-something, I heard at the gym of a guy who could break so hard, the cue would shatter. Well, I HAD to give that a try, and for my entire pool-playing life, I never stopped trying. Never succeeded, though. Finally decided whoever was able to do that wasn’t playing with the “modern” resin balls of my misspent youth, but with one of the older materials commonly used in manufacturing them. I remember the first plastics on the market. They were notoriously brittle.

Love when someone stands at the bottom of the table while I break.

I send that cue ball with all the top spin I can get and try to bean the dummy.

“Ooops...”

...the cue would shatter...

I meant CUE BALL would shatter.

My brother drew blood on a guy who did that.

Sent the cue ball flying...nailed him the nose.

Another smartass actually stood there gripping the bumpers and my brother rapped the knuckles on one of his hands...

"I meant CUE BALL would shatter."

Thanks for clearing that up.

I was picturing splinters flying everywhere from the cue.

I’m sorry about that. I do really feel bad because there must be at least a dozen people out there who are thinking the same thing you were thinking. All because of my lousy editing skills and inability to catch errors, particularly when it comes to stuff I’ve written myself. :-(

It seems to me that the only way that could happen is if they modeled the balls as being not 100% rigid or with finite spaces between the balls. Which goes against my own assumption about the model, which is that they assumed 100% rigidity and no spaces. Of course I could be wrong.

You seem to have more technical expertise than I do. I just took everyday observations, and a lot of pool playing during my drinking years) rather than the more scientific approach. Sometimes my ignorance of the mathematics of the physical sciences can simplify things - for me anyway.

Go for the second ball on either side from line on the rail, for the eight on the break.
Use as much force as possible without jumping the Cue ball off the table and starting a
bar brawl and going to jail while trying to explain it all to the wife before the divorce
after you got fired for missing work, because you were in jail for drunk fighting.

Nevermind. Ping Pong anybody?

Pinball. One of man’s greatest inventions!

A pinball is like a woman. Sometimes they are incredibly responsive, other times they are moody and uncooperative. They are always demanding. If you caress them the right way, you can feel their heartbeat and their warmth, and they will give you great pleasure. If you don’t treat them right, they will shut down and keep your money.

Video games are cold and lifeless.
