They did.

The NFL office has said that proper notification was given to the defense. End of your whining.

“Everything was legal from a formation and reporting standpoint,” NFL vice president of football communications Michael Signora told The Baltimore Sun in an email.

John Harbaugh responded:

"The NFL needs to require Ravens' opponents to send an engraved game plan at least 90 days in advance of every contest, including the playoffs. Prospective teams shall send Ravens' coaching staff these notifications by certified US mail, until and unless they are mathematically eliminated from playing us. The notifications shall be sent in the paper size, paper type, bonding quality, color and font of our choice, and an alternative audio game plan shall also be provided on compact disk and read VERY, VERY, SLOWLY by an ISO-qualified Title-XI special learning educator for the benefit of Terrell Suggs and several others of our mentally differently-abled players."

Any questions?

An NFL executive has said so, so I'm sure he's an expert on the rules. This needs to go to the rules committee.

I'm not "whining", I'm simply stating that you a flat wrong.

1) - Why is the requirement for the referee to inform the defense in Rule 5.3.1 in the first place?

2) - How is announcing over the PA system in a large, outdoor, stadium full of thousands of screaming fans, fulfillment of the requirement "inform the defense"?

Harbaugh was 100% correct in complaing how the referee handled the situation. The Rule clearly shows that the Defense be "informed", and if it was a legal case, the Referee would have be negligent of his duty to do so. Why would the Rule require the Referee "inform the defense", if it was not to nullify an advantage the offense would have if the defense was not notified.

Rule 5.3.1 exists for the sole reason to avoid the situation that occurred.

The old tackle eligible play we used when I was in high School in 1964. Harbaugh is an idiot.

If it was an illegal formation, done repeatedly (the refs could conceivably miss the call if it was only one play), the refs would have called it. I thought deception was part of strategy.

General Patton had a great deal of respect for Guederian and Rommel even though they were enemies.

George C. Scott as Patton: Rommel you magnificent bastard! I read your book!!

That is how most penalties are announced, and there is normally no problem hearing the call even in a stadium "full of thousands of screaming fans." Actually, the crowd usually becomes fairly quiet when the referee is about to announce a decision. And I didn't have any particular preference who won this game. .

How can anyone blame Belicheat? If you can't secretly film the other teams practices anymore you got to do something.

The front stifled the run, but they were eaten up by the quick throws for 7-15 yards.

Not tough to stop what doesn't happen. Brady did not hand the ball off even once in the second half. All 5 of their second half rushes were by Brady himself... and 3 of those were kneels at the end.

Yea but this was the NEW eligible receiver Ineligible play!

Actually brilliant even though I really, really dislike Bell-a-chick.

I think the point was that the Pats quit trying to run because they couldn't, hence no runs in the 2nd half.

Harbaugh may still be sore about what happened to his defense when he coached Middle School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdYLEuK0dEc

:-)

Well, I look at it this way. If the Ravens got outfoxed by the team from Foxboro, that’s the way the ovate chunk of pigskin bounces. I am not a Patriots fan. I am even less a Ravens fan.

It’s a personal thing that relates back to just two words - Art Modell.

(I’m from Ohio..)

It didn't happen because it wasn't going to happen. Pittsburgh couldn't run against the Ravens either. At NE, Bolden, Vereen and Blount rushed 7 times for a whopping 14 yards. Of course, why bother running when the corners are giving your receivers 10 yards each play?

If Balto can pick up a secondary in the off season, they will be a really good team next year. They have a young offensive line that played very well the last two games, and did an excellent job of stopping the NE pass rush, while opening lots of holes for Forsett. Fun game, but bad coaching for Balto and a stupid throw late by Flacco ruined it. I was hoping to see Brady cry some more. So close.....

OK, I see you will whine endlessly about this.

You can whine all year.

While we are addressing the need for the League to review, I hope the League will also review the RatBird's deliberately slowing down, falling down, pushing off, "tangling legs with" and otherwise offensively interfering with the defender's equal opportunity to get to the ball.

Ratbird strategy throughout the season on third and long has been to have Joe Flaccid simply toss the ball up for grabs, and count on the incessant whining of the RatBird's receiver's and sidelines to award them a first down or a spot foul. The League needs to put a stop to this.

Sadly [for you, but not for football fans] in the second half of this game, it didn't work, and Joey Tossups was picked twice. That is why you lost this game, and not because the mentally inept members of your defense were unable to understand that when you have no coverage assignment you either double the zone, or rush the quarterback.

Every other team in the NFL is bright enough to understand that. Not the RatBirds.

So we will get to listen to you whine for a year.
